One of the new game modes that have been introduced in Terraria is Journey Mode. This mode is very similar to a creative mode in Minecraft, with a few key twists and differences. Players will be able to spawn any item they want into the game as long as they have researched that item first. This game mode is also much easier than others, but players will have access to several different methods of tailoring the game to their skill level. This guide will help players make sense of the new Journey Mode.

Terraria Journey Mode: Starting Gear

Unlike other game modes in Terraria, players will actually begin Journey Mode with several items that make the early moments of the game much easier. Players will be provided with an Iron Shortsword, an Iron Pickaxe, an Iron Axe, an Iron Hammer, a Finch Staff, 100 Torches, and 100 Rope. They will also start the game with a pair of Fledgling Wings equipped. These items will make it to where players can collect materials and craft some essential early game objects much faster than in a standard game. The Fledgling Wings will also let players jump higher, and help negate fall damage.

Terraria Journey Mode: Research and Duplication

Research and Duplication are probably the defining characteristics of Terraria's Journey Mode. In Journey Mode, players will be able to duplicate any item that they have owned and have infinite amounts of that resource. Players will first need to research the item before being able to duplicate it. Each item will have differing amounts that must be researched before being duplicated. For example, players will need to research 100 pieces of Wood or 100 pieces of Iron Ore before duplicating them.

There are also many different ways to adjust the world around the player and their own abilities while playing in this mode as well. For one, players have complete control over time and the weather. There is the ability to select from dawn, noon, dusk, and midnight as well as freeze time at any point. Freezing time still allows enemies and NPCs to move around and attack, it just ensures that time does not move forward any further. The player has complete control over rain, which moves on a slider from clear sky to monsoon and they can even adjust the speed and direction of the wind. Additionally, there is an option to turn off the spread of Corruption, Crimson, or Hallow.

There are two different features that affect the player's abilities in-game. At any point in time, the player can turn God Mode on or off. This will stop them from taking any damage or knockback from enemy attacks. With this on players will be able to survive underwater indefinitely and use magic attacks without spending mana points. The player can also increase the range at which they can place and destroy blocks. This is turned on automatically once Journey Mode is started.

Terraria Journey Mode: Enemy Sliders

There are two different sliders in Journey Mode that will change the way that enemies behave and spawn in Terraria. For one, players can decide how many enemies spawn in their world. There is the ability to change enemy spawn rates from the normal to 10x the normal rate, but the spawn rate can also be set to .10x. Enemy difficulty can also be adjusted considerably. Journey Mode starts out with .5x the normal difficulty but players can adjust the difficult all the way up to Master Mode at 3x.

Terraria Journey Mode: Things to Keep in Mind

Journey Mode is mostly for players who want a more tailored experience, or those that want to play through the game more quickly. Players who mess around with the research and duplication mechanics will quickly find that it breaks progression in Terraria considerably. This is a lot of fun since the player can accomplish things that would normally take days in a matter of a couple of hours. The issue here is that players who have less experience with the game can find themselves accelerating quickly without learning how the game is played. New players should probably spend some time with normal mode before trying to take a crack at Journey Mode.
