Paramount has reportedly settled on Terminator: Dark Fate as the official title for James Cameron's Terminator 6. Cameron himself previously announced Dark Fate as the working title for the film, which sees Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton returning together for one more go around in the franchise they launched back in 1984.

Original series stars Schwarzenegger and Hamilton will be joined in Dark Fate by several fresh characters, including new protagonist Dani Ramos, played by Natalia Reyes, and a new Terminator played by Gabriel Luna. Tully star Mackenzie Davis also joins the franchise as Grace, a soldier-assassin from the future who may be a human/cyborg hybrid. Deadpool's Tim Miller takes on directing duties, working from a script by David S. Goyer, Billy Ray, Josh Friedman and Justin Rhodes, with franchise creator Cameron himself back in the producer's chair.

As reported by Deadline, the previously revealed Terminator: Dark Fate working title has now been confirmed as the movie's actual title. Additionally, Deadline reports that Paramount is sticking with their plan to release the film on Nov. 1, pitting the movie directly against Sony's Charlie's Angels reboot starring Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska and Naomi Scott. It's a potentially risky move for both sides to hold that date as the films on paper appear very similar, both being adult-aimed franchise action movies centered on strong female characters. It remains to be seen if either Paramount or Sony will blink and move their film.

Terminator 6 Dark Fate Arnold Schwarzenegger Mackenzie Davis and Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor

Many details have already been revealed about Dark Fate, including the setting in Mexico City, the parallels between the Dani Ramos character and Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor, and the fact that Ramos will be menaced by a new Terminator. It's also been revealed that the movie will ignore the events of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator: Genisys, making it a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Arnold Schwarzenegger also let the cat out of the bag recently as to the film's budget, which he says is currently hovering between $160 million and $200 million, with more work yet to be done.

After Terminator: Genisys failed to break the bank at the box office, it's perhaps surprising that Paramount and Skydance are going back to the Terminator well yet again, and that they're willing to risk a budget of perhaps over $200 million on the film. Then again, with Cameron back in the fold exerting a higher level of creative control than he has over any Terminator film since he directed Judgment Day himself, perhaps the studios feel confident that with Terminator: Dark Fate the right formula will be discovered for not only renewing the venerable franchise but allowing it to carry on into the future with new characters and stars.
