It would appear that franchise mainstay and frequent lead actor Arnold Schwarzenegger will be returning for Terminator 6, with the start of filming scheduled for 2018. Following the less than warm reception greeted by Terminator Genisys in 2015, series creator James Cameron has come forward to help develop a new trilogy of films that will reportedly reinvent the franchise.

As of this writing, Terminator 6 is slated to be directed by Deadpool top dog Tim Miller, and Schwarzenegger has expressed decided interest in returning to help rebuild the franchise alongside Cameron from the ground up. Its been some 30-plus years since the original The Terminator first hit theaters in 1984, and in the time since the series has seen more than its fair share of ups and downs. Thankfully, it would appear that things are moving forward in a positive direction on the new trilogy, and Schwarzenegger is definitely coming along for the ride.

According to The Playlist, Schwarzenegger will begin filming Terminator 6 in March 2018, under the guidance of Cameron and Terminator Genisys producer David Ellison. The start of the new Terminator trilogy is being produced as part of a new deal between Ellison's Skydance studio and Paramount Pictures, with Miller tapped to direct.

Arnold Schwarzenegger The Terminato

Speaking to the start of production on Terminator 6, Schwarzenegger was more than willing to provide the franchise's most devoted fans with a definitive status report, stating, "In March next year, I am shooting Terminator 6. James Cameron and David Ellison are back on board." Schwarzenegger also made note of his involvement in the production on Triplets - the long-awaited sequel to the 1988 studio comedy hit, Twins - as well as the start of production on an unnamed Conan the Barbarian project.

By the sound of things, Schwarzenegger has his hands full. With Triplets expected to begin filming in 2017Terminator 6 will likely be the next big name production that the 1980s action star will turn his attention to next. On that note, here's to hoping for the very best as Schwarzenegger, Cameron, Ellison, and Miller begin work in earnest on the new Terminator trilogy later next year.
