Here's a cast and character guide for 2003's Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines. Hollywood had a hard time taking Arnold Schwarzenegger seriously as a leading man until the success of 1984's The Terminator proved he was a movie star. He returned seven years later for Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which was another instant classic which proved even more successful. It's fair to say the movies that followed James Cameron's first two entries have been underwhelming to the majority of viewers.

After a long delay, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines arrived in 2003 but was basically a lukewarm remake of the second film, though it did benefit from an unexpectedly dark ending. Terminator: Salvation was the first sequel without Arnie - outside of a CGI cameo - but despite casting Christian Bale as John Connor and taking place in the future war, it was surprisingly dull. Terminator: Genisys brought back Arnie but from its ridiculously convoluted plot to dull action scenes, it wasn't the reinvention the series badly needed. Terminator: Dark Fate tried to course-correct by ignoring the previous three movies and bringing back Linda Hamilton's Sarah Conner, only to be greeted with mixed reviews and modest box-office.

Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machine's once again sees a Terminator protecting John Connor, and here's a guide to the movie's cast.

The T-X shows off its robot arm in Terminator 3

Arnold Schwarzenegger - T-850

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back (sorry) as the Terminator, with this particular model being reprogrammed by the future resistance. The T-850's job is to keep John Connor and Kate Brewer alive at all costs, and this machine shows a little bit more of a dry wit than previous versions. He also reveals he's the machine who finally killed Connor in the future.

Nick Stahl - John Connor

Nick Stahl (Sin City) inherited the John Connor role for Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines, with the story finding an isolated John drifting following the death of his mother Sarah. He still dreams of the future war coming to pass, and his nightmare comes through when the T-X arrives and Skynet goes online. He's reluctant to embrace his destiny but comes to realize it's inevitable.

Claire Danes - Kate Brewster

Homeland's Claire Danes plays Kate Brewster in Terminator 3 and replaced the originally cast Sophia Bush. Kate works as a vet and is set for marriage when the story begins, only to get suddenly caught up in the battle against the T-X. Kate also learns she and John are married in the future and she was the one who sent the T-850 back in time.

Kristanna Loken - T-X

Kristanna Loken portrays the T-X, an advanced cyborg model designed for extreme combat in Terminator 3. She's able to imitate other people and is armed with inbuilt weapons like a plasma cannon and flame thrower. While the T-X retains the same cold, emotionless exterior of previous units, there are signs she enjoys her work a little more than the others.

David Andrews - General Brewster

David Andrews (Queen Of The South) is General Brewster in Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines, Kate's father and the man who opens "Pandora's Box" when he activates Skynet. Despite his reluctance, Brewster was pressured into turning Skynet on to squash a nasty computer virus impacting the globe, and after being fatally wounded by the T-X, he points Kate, John, and the T-850 to a fallout shelter.
