The first trailer for Christopher Nolan's Tenet is officially released online. While he made a name for himself in the realm of franchise filmmaking via the Dark Knight trilogy, Nolan has since established himself as a brand name director who can sell audiences on just about anything. Several of his non-Batman films like Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk were all critically acclaimed box office hits, giving Nolan a substantial amount of clout to produce whatever he wants. Up next is an original thriller called Tenet.

Much about Tenet has been closely guarded, leaving audiences intrigued to discover what it's about. Over the summer, viewers got their first look at the film via a theater-only teaser that painted an enigmatic picture and hinted at a mind-bending narrative. Warner Bros. held off releasing any further marketing materials, but now they're formally kicking off the campaign. In addition to an IMAX prologue playing in theaters, the general public finally has a Tenet trailer.

At long last, audiences finally have a general idea of what Tenet is about. It looks to be as every bit cerebral and mind-bending as to be expected from Nolan, with awe-inspiring set pieces that hint at the film's massive scope. John David Washington's character appears to be some kind of government agent/spy, who sacrificed his life on a mission to protect his allies. Now, he's seemingly been brought back to life to handle a new assignment that involves preventing World War III. Tenet clearly is playing around with the concept of time, and it'll be interesting to see how the whole narrative comes together. But what's presented here is highly intriguing. It sounds like "tenet" is a codeword of sorts that Washington's character uses on his mission - which will either help him or get him into trouble depending on the situation.

It's difficult to miss the title card telling viewers to see the Tenet trailer in theaters for maximum impact. As stated above, the film's initial teaser was a multiplex exclusive, a gambit that arguably had mixed results. But it goes without saying Tenet was crafted to be seen on the biggest screen possible, with Nolan's trademark jaw-dropping visuals and extravagant action sequences making excellent use of the large canvas. The director's storytelling approach isn't always for everyone, but even Nolan's harshest critics will admit his films are always stunning to look at. Nolan's been riding essentially a career-long hot streak in terms of critical reception and box office performance, so hopefully Tenet can continue that.
