With James Gunn being given full control over The Suicide Squad, he did not hesitate to go all out with an R-rating. Not only does nearly every Suicide Squad character bring the laughs through dropping F-bombs and crude humor throughout but The Suicide Squad is also brutally bloody with intense gore and hyper-violent action sequences.

It's not just random soldiers getting killed either, as this incarnation of Task Force X lives up to their nickname as a Suicide Squad. Many members of their squad end up dying trying to save the world, while other members dish out gory kills that would make the likes of Deadpool flinch.

Savant's Desertion

Savant's blood forming the opening credits in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

When Savant, played by Michael Rooker, witnesses the entirety of Team 1 get slaughtered, he attempts to escape. Of course, Amanda Waller doesn't take too well to desertion so, in a quick but gory death, she activates the nano-explosive in his neck.

Savant's head explodes into a splatter of brains, skull, and long white hair floating in the ocean. This continues the tradition of James Gunn killing off Michael Rooker in his films, going all the way back to Gunn's first filmSlither.

G'Bye, Boomerang

Captain Boomerang accepting his death by helicopter in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

One of the few returning members from 2016's Suicide Squad was Captain Boomerang. He even got an upgrade in terms of skills and his costume but sadly, he does not make it out alive. When Team 1 is sold out by Blackguard, all but Harley Quinn and Rick Flag are taken out in a rather brutal prologue.

When Mongal attempts to take down a helicopter, she is successful, but it results in the blades sending wooden shrapnel right to Boomerang, impaling him while making him drop to his knees. Finally, he is finished off when the helicopter slides across the beach towards him to dice him into pieces.

Harley's Escape

Harley Quinn The Suicide Squad Flowers Collage

Though she is more of an anti-hero these days, Harley Quinn is still unpredictable and insane and this action sequence shows that. Harley escapes the Corto Maltese prison and goes on a rampage, killing every soldier that stands in her way, showing off how she could potentially even keep up with Ben Affleck's Batman.

In the second half of the fight, James Gunn presents how Harley views the fight: each kill resulting in flowers emitting from herself and the people she kills. Mixing her acrobatics, gunplay, and use of her new javelin, she slaughters the soldiers in brutal yet beautiful ways.

Two In One

To destroy Project Starfish, the Suicide Squad storm their way into Jotunheim, which leads to them plowing through Corto Maltesian soldiers. Bloodsport and Peacemaker use their weapons in effective ways, especially Bloodsport, who is wearing his suit of a thousand weapons.

Rick Flag fires at two soldiers working side by side, resulting in them both having their sides exploding from the shot. Of course, James Gunn shows the gap before the soldiers fall over.

Hatchet Time

Showcasing his disturbing love for violence, Peacemaker walks right up to a sleeping soldier to chop at him with a hatchet. He doesn't just instantly kill the enemy either, as, instead, Peacemaker prolongs the death by starting at the feet and chopping a multitude of times until reaching the heart.

This death is even more disturbing when considering that everyone that both he and Bloodsport were killing were actually freedom fighters. This makes the overly brutal kill both dark and humorous at the same time.

Killed In Action

Despite Rick Flag being an even better leader than in the first film, he was too much of a hero. Since he wanted to expose the U.S. government's involvement with Project Starfish, he becomes the target of Peacemaker. Flag proves he's one of the most skilled members of the Suicide Squad by nearly beating Peacemaker, but to no avail.

Ultimately, Peacemaker jams a piece of ceramic right into Rick Flag's chest. To let the audience know that Flag is truly dead, it shows an interior of Flag's torso with the ceramic impaling his heart. While it may not be the goriest death, it leaves an impact, since he was such a noble character that fans had come to enjoy.

Karma For The Thinker

Thinker being strung up by Starro The Conquerer's tentacles in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

In a surprise twist, Starro the Conquerer was less of an evil overlord than a victim of the U.S. government and the twisted scientist known as The Thinker. For decades, he experimented on Starro and according to the alien, it's implied that Thinker even molested him.

So, Starro did not hesitate to get his revenge upon being freed. He grabs the Thinker with his tendrils, pulling him by his four limbs in different directions, ripping him apart before tossing the remnants into a window for the Thinker's body to explode. He most definitely will not be missed.

Dope As F*ck

Another freedom fighter becomes the unfortunate victim of Peacemaker when he and Bloodsport are competing for the better kills. Casually, Peacemaker fires behind him without looking and hits one fighter. The bullet appears to be non-lethal, until he explains that it was an explosive round.

The freedom fighter's entire top half then explodes with a blast of blood and meat. Bloodsport is quick to diminish the kill by saying that nobody likes a show-off. Peacemaker is quick to reply with, "Unless what they're showing off is dope as f*ck." This would be one of the few times in The Suicide Squad the audience would agree with Peacemaker.

Rip & Tear

King Shark tearing a man in half while lightning strikes behind him in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

For the most part, Nanaue AKA King Shark is a lovable oaf that's like a three-year-old in a shark man's body. However, he has no issue with getting his hands bloody - literally, in this case - such as when the Squad is storming Jotunheim and a scared soldier bumps into King Shark.

In a shot straight out of a comic book, King Shark grabs the man, digs his fingers into him, then tears the poor soldier in half in a vertical split down the center. James Gunn nails this one by showing off the soldier's thick blood and his exposed bones and organs. All of this occurs while a lightning bolt strikes behind King Shark, giving him a chance to shine.

Falling Star

Side-by-side view of Starro succumbing to his wounds on the left and Harley watching the rats kill Starro on the right in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

Take away the triumphant music and his death is rather twisted and disturbing, even for James Gunn's standards. Millions of tiny rats swarm his body while Harley Quinn leaps forward to impale Starro's massive eye with the javelin, allowing her to enter his eye, swimming in the fluid.

It doesn't end there. The rats all enter the opening that Harley created and begin to tear apart Starro from the inside until his eye is a ball of blood and thick fluid. It doesn't help that when Starro dies, he says that he was happy floating in space watching the stars, making his death slightly tragic.
