The trailer for the upcoming second episode of Telltale Games' Guardians of the Galaxy has released. The independent game developer and publisher has made a name for itself by creating episodic games based on famous pop culture properties. Although they made games based on CSI, Jurassic Park, and Back to the Future, the studio didn't really hit their stride until the release of the first season of The Walking Dead game. From then on, they made games based on Batman, Minecraft, and even Game of Thrones.
The latest property to get the Telltale treatment is Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. It was first announced last year, to be primarily based on the live-action versions of the characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first episode, titled "Tangled Up in Blue", released almost two months ago, and it was met with disappointing reactions. The idea that Telltale missed the mark with Guardians of the Galaxy started floating around, but the studio just might have a chance to redeem themselves (and the series) with the next episode.
Telltale Games released the trailer for the second episode for Guardians of the Galaxy, titled "Under Pressure", this morning. Keeping up with Guardians tradition, the title of the episode is a reference to the Queen and David Bowie song of the same name. The episode, which focuses on Rocket Raccoon's origins, premieres tomorrow, Tuesday, June 6. You can watch the trailer above.
The trailer briefly recounts the events of the first episode along with the aftermath, particularly how the rest of the team reacts to Peter Quill coming back to life. It also seems to indicate that one of the ongoing themes of the series will be the team trying to outrun their past, all while taking on new threats in the present. Considering that the new episode focuses more on Rocket than any other member, perhaps players will be able to assume control of the character for the majority of the episode.
Telltale's game is the latest property to capitalize on the overwhelming popularity and success of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films. When the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie released three years ago, Marvel Studios immediately knew they had something special on their hands - and ever since then, they have continued adapting the film into different mediums. They've already released a new animated series, a video game, and have even partnered with Disneyland for the recently-opened theme park ride, Guardians of the Galaxy -- Mission Breakout! -- and it doesn't look like Marvel plans on slowing down anytime soon.
Telltale and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy episode 2, "Under Pressure", arrives tomorrow.
