Teen Wolf’ star Tyler Posey reveals what excites him most about the upcoming revival movie. Loosely based on the 1985 film of the same name, Teen Wolf focused on Scott McCall (Posey) as a teenager in Beacon Hills, California, who encounters a werewolf late at night and is forever changed. Scott soon finds himself having to fight supernatural threats, with the help of friends and reluctant allies, while also keeping track of his high school responsibilities. Airing on MTV from June 2011 to September 2017, the series’ cast also included Dylan O’Brien, Crystal Reed, Tyler Hoechlin, Holland Roden, Colton Haynes, and Arden Cho.

On the fourth anniversary of the Teen Wolf finale, it was announced that series creator Jeff Davis would be writing and executive producing a follow-up movie. Slated to arrive in 2022 on the Paramount+ streaming service, the logline for the Teen Wolf movie teases that a new terrifying evil has emerged in Beacon Hills. It also reveals that many of the show’s villains will return. And of course, Posey will be back as Scott.

In an interview with EW, Posey spoke at the length for the first time about reprising his most famous portrayal in the Teen Wolf movie. The actor said that, generally, he’s just happy to be able to play Scott again, saying he "misses" and "loves" him. Although he did note that, given how much high school factored into the original series as the main setting, it will be interesting and "exciting" to play an older version of his character. Read Posey’s full quote below:

“I’m just excited to play this character again. I miss him, I love him. I think what I’m most excited for is to see them age. We were in high school for what seemed like 10 years. I’m excited to see them age and get out of high school. High school was such a character in itself on the show, so I’m excited to see how it’s going to be without that sort of character of a school involved. It will be interesting.”

At this point, beyond the details revealed in the film's synopsis, and the fact that Posey will lead the project, not much is known about the specifics of the Teen Wolf movie. Still, as the actor has been open about how he’s always pitched ideas for how to revive the MTV hit show, it’s hardly a surprise that he has a good handle on what fans of the show might want to see. It makes sense, as well, since much of the audience watched the series when it was originally airing. Like the characters they grew to love, some of the fanbase has moved well beyond high school, and would likely want to see their own experiences and age reflected on screen.

Posey does stress, however, that the revival movie will place a premium on the relationships that kept viewers tuning in to the series all the way up to season 6. In past remarks, the actor has spoken candidly about meeting co-star O’Brien, who played Stiles, and how their chemistry helped to anchor the friendship between the two characters. While it remains to be seen which Teen Wolf alums come back for the Paramount+ film, it’s a positive sign that the project’s lead actor is giving a lot of thought to what makes the story work.
