The Teen Wolf revival movie is bringing back a lot of familiar faces from the show, with some familiar monsters set to return as well. Throughout six seasons of Teen Wolf, Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) and his pack faced many supernatural threats. Some were more terrifying than others, simply due to their appearance and abilities, but all of them tested Scott and his friends’ resolve and courage. In the end, Scott’s team always prevailed, and now a Teen Wolf revival movie is on the way that promises an evil the likes of which they have never faced before. It’s still possible, however, that a few familiar monsters will make an appearance, as Beacon Hills remains a guiding light for the supernatural, and more than one familiar menace could be lurking in the shadows.

Some of Teen Wolf’s supernatural monsters are guaranteed to make an appearance, as certain casting details shed light on returning characters. Werewolves will obviously make an appearance, as not only Scott but Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin) and Liam Dunbar (Dylan Sprayberry) will return for the movie as well. Lydia Martin’s (Holland Roden) Banshee will also make an appearance, no doubt with a stronger power set than the audience knows her with, and Malia Tate’s (Shelly Hennig) involvement in the movie marks the return of her Werecoyote. Colton Haynes, who portrayed Jackson Whittemore on Teen Wolf, is reported to return; he ended the show as a Werewolf-Kanima hybrid. Hellhound Jordan Parrish (Ryan Kelley) can be glimpsed in the trailer, too. As such, plenty of familiar monsters are set to return, but much of Teen Wolf’s strength lay in its vicious and terrifying villains, most of them introducing entirely new creatures to the Teen Wolf universe.

An ominous voice narrates the new Teen Wolf movie's teaser trailer, stating “You want retribution…against him.” This retribution is likely aimed at Scott, as the spoken word overlaps with an image of the show's main character running through the halls of what is presumably Beacon Hills High School. Throughout his tenure as an Alpha werewolf, Scott has made many enemies, and this voice, whomever it belongs to, seems to suggest that some of the Teen Wolf movie’s plot will focus on old foes returning. As such, certain monsters that Scott and his pack have come across in the past may make a return appearance. Some of these monsters were incredibly terrifying and nearly broke the pack’s tenacity, and an old enemy might seek to take advantage of that trauma. Which of Teen Wolf’s villains will make an appearance is impossible to say without knowing the full extent of the movie's plot, but here is an overview of every monster that could return, and why.

The Oni

Oni in the Teen Wolf Movie

One supernatural creature that seems certain to be returning for the Teen Wolf movie is the Oni. There are a few shots in the revival's trailer featuring several Oni. They are demon warriors so powerful that they are likened to forces of nature and are meant to be endured, rather than actively fought. They appear to be made of pure darkness and shadow, and though they are physically very strong, their most terrifying ability is that they can nullify certain supernatural powers. In Teen Wolf season 3, they were used by Noshiko Yukimura to hunt down the Nogitsune, a dark trickster spirit, because of the Oni’s ability to “scan” for signs of possession. The problem with the Oni, however, is that they have no sense of morality, and they can be turned against the person that summoned them in the first place, which is exactly what happens in the show.

The Nogitsune

the nogitsune from Teen Wolf

One of Teen Wolf’s most terrifying monsters, the Nogitsune is a dark fox spirit that feeds on chaos, pain, and strife. It possesses a host and uses them to terrorize those around them, breeding trauma, anger, violence, and betrayal. The Nogitsune was one of Scott’s toughest adversaries because it managed to trick them for so long, lying dormant in Stiles’s (Dylan O’Brien) body until the time was right to reveal itself. Over a few weeks, it murdered several innocent people, and eventually even managed to bring the Oni to its side. Though Allison Argent (Crystal Reed) was able to figure out how to kill an Oni once and for all with weapons made of pure silver, she was killed in battle against them — or so audiences were led to believe, as Allison is returning for the Teen Wolf movie as well. If the Oni are back, as the trailer shows, then there is a chance the Nogitsune could return, too. Their mythologies are closely linked, and there is no better adversary to summon to mess with Scott’s mind than one who possessed his best friend and murdered his first love.

The Anuk-Ite

The Anuk-Ite using its powers in Teen Wolf

The Anuk-Ite is another one of the Teen Wolf show's terrifying monsters. Like the Nogitsune, it cultivates discord and disharmony that turns people against one another. Unlike the Nogitsune, however, it does this by amplifying people’s negative emotions, mostly fear, but also associated emotions, such as paranoia, panic, anger, and despair. It’s so powerful it doesn’t need additional physical strength, and once its two halves have merged, its appearance is as horrifying as its ability, with glowing purple eyes and a body with its skin completely flayed. If the narrating nemesis from the Teen Wolf movie trailer wants to ensure retribution against Scott, even the mere idea of the Anuk-Ite is certain to breed panic and fear and would make Scott and his pack an easier target.

Additionally, the Anuk-Ite is the reason Gerard (Michael Hogan) and Monroe’s (Sibongile Mlambo) army of supernatural hunters grew exponentially throughout Teen Wolf season 6B. Since the Teen Wolf epilogue from the series finale, “The Wolves of War,” proved that Monroe was still operating and had amassed a new army of hunters, it’s entirely possible that she would once again hope to use the power of the Anuk-Ite to rally people to her cause. She was taught by Gerard, one of Teen Wolf’s greatest hypocrites – there’s likely no limit to what she’s willing to do to get rid of Scott and his friends. If Monroe’s continued story ends up being part of the Teen Wolf movie, the Anuk-Ite might be mentioned or even appear.

Which Monster Is Most Likely To Appear In The Teen Wolf Movie?

Nogitsune/Void Stiles and Oni Teen Wolf

As the Oni’s appearance has been confirmed in the Teen Wolf movie trailer, two mysteries need to be solved. The first is who summoned them, and the second is why they were summoned. As the Oni’s main purpose is to suss out a Nogitsune or other signs of supernatural possession, both the Nogitsune and an Anuk-Ite seem to be likely contenders to be used as adversaries for Scott. The Nogitsune is more likely, though, as it was finally defeated by being trapped again, and someone could have let it out to cause discord among Scott’s pack. The voiceover in the Teen Wolf movie trailer even says, “We will play a new game. A game of chaos, strife, and pain.” This perfectly describes the Nogitsune’s nature, and it could very well be the Nogitsune itself narrating the trailer. The Oni’s appearance could also be tied to Allison Argent’s apparent resurrection, as supernatural possession could explain her return after all this time.

The Teen Wolf movie is set to test the limits and loyalty of Scott’s pack. If someone is seeking retribution against Scott, using some of his old adversaries and traumatic memories would certainly help to destabilize him. With the return of Allison and an evil the likes of which the pack has never faced before promised by creator Jeff Davis, the Teen Wolf movie is likely to provide a terrifying and intriguing look into the lives of these beloved characters.
