Teen Wolf: The Movie's ending surprised its lead stars. Following the smash success of the hit YA show that saw Tyler Posey's teenage werewolf, Scott McCall, defend his Californian hometown against supernatural threats, Paramount+ announced in 2021 that a sequel movie was in development that would see showrunner Jeff Davis return as EP and screenwriter. Teen Wolf: The Movie reunites the core cast of the original show, with the likes of Posey, Tyler Hoechlin, Shelley Hennig, Crystal Reed, and Holland Roden returning to reprise their roles. Some notable stars, however, won't be back, including Dylan O'Brien, Arden Cho, and Cody Christian. The Teen Wolf sequel movie finished filming in May, and it's expected to debut on the streamer sometime later this year.

Initially, plot details on the sequel film were decidedly scant. But, during Paramount+'s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) panel on Thursday, the first trailer for Teen Wolf: The Movie was unveiled, which saw Allison's (Reed) ominous return from the dead, as well as the comeback of the devil warriors, the Oni. Subsequently, Posey also detailed the new story for his lead character, suggesting that Scott would lead a peaceful life working for a veterinarian in LA. While fans know that Scott will inevitably return to Beacon Hills in the new movie, it's unclear what circumstances would prompt him to, or which new challenge he and his allies would need to face. Still, it seems that Teen Wolf: The Movie will have an explosive ending that will subvert fan expectations and shock audiences.

Screen Rant was in attendance during Paramount+'s SDCC panel when Posey, Hoechlin, and Davis teased that the Teen Wolf: The Movie ending left them staggered. The actors and EP did not elaborate much on that idea, considering that the morsel would potentially be spoiler-y. But, Posey and Hoechlin did suggest that their characters do not end up where they expected them to.

Tyler Hoechlin as Derek Hale and Tyler Posey as Scott McCall in Teen Wolf

It's not completely unexpected that the Teen Wolf sequel movie would have a stunning conclusion. As the recent trailer suggests, the fate of Hoechlin's Derek seems reasonably bleak, as there were shots of him crawling on the ground after being fatally injured. As for Scott, it's hard to predict what the new chaos in Beacon Hills would entail, but his character might get caught up in whatever the resurrected Allison is up to. The events could potentially lead him to be wrongfully incarcerated, only for future heroes to rescue him.

While Teen Wolf: The Movie might offer closure for the arcs of some characters, it will likely get some others mired in a new mystery that leads into the upcoming spinoff show, Wolf Pack. It has been announced that the Teen Wolf movie sets up Wolf Pack, but so far, none of the original stars have been confirmed to appear in the follow-up show. Their appearances, however, have not been ruled out, and it seems spinoffs will bring back certain legacy characters, resolving their unfinished stories from the movie's potential open-ended or cliffhanger conclusion. Right now, it doesn't look like Teen Wolf: The Movie would kill off Scott, but nothing can be said for sure until more details from the sequel movie or the Wolf Pack show arrive.
