A movie follow-up of Teen Wolf is in production, and here’s every character that could return based on how the show concluded. Loosely based on Michael J. Fox’s 1985 film of the same name, Teen Wolf premiered on MTV in June 2011. It focused on an ordinary high school student who encounters a werewolf and is forever changed as a result, having to fight supernatural threats while also juggling the responsibilities of high school. The Teen Wolf show’s cast included Tyler Posey, Dylan O’Brien, Crystal Reed, Tyler Hoechlin, Holland Roden, Colton Haynes, and Arden Cho.

After six successful seasons and 100 episodes, Teen Wolf ended its run in September 2017. But almost immediately, inquiries began about a possible season 7 and whether the series could be revived in some form down the line. On the fourth anniversary of the series finale, fans got their wish: Jeff Davis announced that a Teen Wolf movie was in the works. Slated to arrive in 2022, on the Paramount+ streaming service, the movie’s logline teases that a new terrifying evil has emerged in the town of Beacon Hills. Many of the show’s villains, from Banshees to Hellhounds, will return. And along with them, Posey will be back in the role of Scott McCall to reunite with his friends and battle against the most powerful enemy they’ve ever faced.

Davis, the series creator and showrunner of Teen Wolf, will executive produce and write the movie. Additionally, it was reported that the original cast was in talks to return. But given that the cast of the MTV hit shifted significantly from one season to the next, with familiar faces constantly coming and going, who could be back for the movie and which supporting characters might make an appearance?

Scott McCall

Based on the logline for the Teen Wolf movie, Scott is a lock to return. After beginning the show uncertain of himself and his abilities, the protagonist gathers a large pack of supernatural creatures and allies by the show's end. As he notes in the series finale, his pack may not always be around — but if the situation calls for it and if their help is needed, they’ll always show up. This is teased in the last minutes of the finale, which reveals that Scott is taking up the work of saving werewolves from those who would hunt them.

Stiles Stilinski

Arguably the breakout character of Teen Wolf, catching on with viewers due to his wit and his selfless actions, Stiles (O’Brien) is Scott’s best friend throughout the series. Stiles is missing from much of Teen Wolf season 6, due to O’Brien’s scheduling conflicts, but he becomes an intern at the FBI in the show’s last episodes. It’s a fitting conclusion for a character that often saved the day thanks to his knack for examining the details and finding a way out of difficult situations. It’s a skill that will likely come in handy with whatever happens in the upcoming movie.

Lydia Martin

Lydia (Roden) began Teen Wolf as the self-absorbed popular girl of Beacon Hills, but as the series evolved, she gradually became a crucial part of Scott’s pack. Her abilities as a Banshee, and her powers of being able to see what will happen in the future, have been pivotal to the survival of her friends on numerous occasions. As the show came to a close, Lydia began dating Stiles. And, in between fulfilling her academic goals, she’s continued to help Scott when needed.

Derek Hale

Derek (Hoechlin) left Teen Wolf after season 4, but he returned for the series finale. In the end, like Stiles and Lydia, Derek continues to assist Scott when needed. It’s a significant shift for the two characters because, when the show began, Scott was furious at Derek for turning him into a werewolf and the two were at odds — but, over time, Derek turns into one of Scott’s biggest supporters.

Malia Tate

Malia (Henning) was introduced in Teen Wolf season 3. Initially, the character was presented as a fish-out-of-water character, having spent her formative years as a feral coyote. Malia eventually adjusts to life as a teenager in Beacon Hills. In the series finale, after many battles as part of Scott’s pack, it’s implied that the two characters have feelings for each other. This is one of the aspects that the Teen Wolf movie could clarify.

Kira Yukimura

Kira (Cho) is another character that joined in season 3, before becoming a main character in the next two seasons. Growing closer to Scott and the rest of his friends, Kira discovers that she is a thunder kitsune with swordsmanship skills and significant electrical powers. Cho left Teen Wolf after season 5, and it was explained that her character needed to gain more control and a deeper understanding of her abilities. Still, given Kira’s significant relationship with Scott, which evolved for a good portion of the show, it would be cool to see her return.

Jackson Whittemore

Jackson (Haynes) was a regular cast member for the first two seasons of Teen Wolf. The character was written off in the premiere of season 3, with the explanation that he moved to London after learning to control his werewolf form. A powerful hybrid of werewolf and kanima, Jackson returns in season 6. The former antagonist is now fully on the side of the good guys.

Other Teen Wolf Characters That Could Return

Allison Argent against a wooden wall in Teen Wolf

Along with its main cast of characters, Teen Wolf boasts a large ensemble of former regulars and supporting characters that were a part of multiple episodes. Here are the ones who could appear in the movie, listed briefly.

Allison Argent (Crystal Reed): Even though Allison was killed off in the finale of Teen Wolf season 3, she could still appear in a flashback or a dream sequence. The character was a vital part of the show, both for her own journey and due to the fact that the first two seasons focused heavily on her relationship with Scott.

Noah Stilinski (Linden Ashby): The sheriff of Beacon Hills and Stiles’ father, Noah became a main character in the show’s final season.

Chris Argent (JR Bourne): Chris is Allison’s father. He begins Teen Wolf as a werewolf hunter, but, by the end of the show, he works alongside Scott and the two develop a father-son bond.

Melissa McCall (Melissa Ponzio): Scott’s mother, Melissa is a local nurse and she becomes an important ally of the gang once she learns the truth about werewolves. In the final season, Melissa begins dating Chris Argent.

Liam Dunbar (Dylan Sprayberry): Liam joined Teen Wolf in season 4. Depicted initially as a teenager with anger issues, Scott is forced to transform Liam into a werewolf to save his life. Over time, Liam grows to develop a strong friendship with Scott. He remains with the show until the very end.

Peter Hale (Ian Bohen): Peter is Derek’s uncle and Malia’s father. Though he was initially introduced as the main antagonist of Teen Wolf in season 1, and he occasionally reverted back to that position, Peter is fully on Scott’s side by the end of the show.

Alan Deaton (Seth Gilliam): Alan is a mentor figure to Scott. Though he works at the Beacon Hills Animal Clinic, with Scott as his employee, Alan knows far more about the supernatural forces around him than he lets on. The character appears in all six seasons.

Bobby Finstock (Orny Adams): The football coach of Beacon Hills’ high school, Finstock remained a recurring character throughout Teen Wolf. In the series finale, he’s seen defending his students against werewolf hunters.

Danny Mahealani (Keahu Kahuanui): Danny, who disappeared in Teen Wolf season 3, was one of the characters to leave the show with next to no on-screen explanation. There were plans to bring the popular supporting figure back for the series finale, and the movie could make it happen.

Kate Argent (Jill Wagner): An antagonist, Kate is Allison’s aunt. She appears as a guest character in every season of Teen Wolf except the fifth. She’s a very powerful species of werewolf known as “Werejaguar.”

Isaac Lahey (Daniel Sharman): Isaac left the show at the end of season 3, and it was briefly mentioned that he’d moved to France after Allison’s death. Given his closeness to Scott in seasons 2 and 3, and given that there were also plans to include him in the finale, he could be back for the Teen Wolf movie.

Ethan Steiner (Charlie Carver): Ethan returned in season 6, after first appearing in season 3. In the series finale flash-forward, it’s revealed that he’s still in a relationship with Jackson.

Braeden (Meagan Tandy): Another character that abruptly left Teen Wolf, Braeden was introduced as a mercenary though she becomes an ally after falling for Derek.

Jordan Parrish (Ryan Kelley): Debuting halfway through the series, Parrish is a Deputy Sheriff that works alongside Noah Stilinski. He remains a part of Teen Wolf until the finale. In an important arc for the character, it’s revealed that he’s a powerful Hellhound.

Mason Hewitt (Khylin Rhambo): Mason becomes a part of the show in season 4, remaining with Teen Wolf through the finale. Though he’s initially scared to learn the truth about werewolves, he gradually begins to show his bravery as the series progresses. By the finale, Mason is fully putting himself in harm’s way to fight with his werewolf friends.

Theo Raeken (Cody Christian): Joining the show in season 5 as a prominent recurring guest star, Theo is a type of werewolf known as a Chimera. He butted heads with Stiles and possessed many of the same antagonistic qualities as Jackson. However, by the end of Teen Wolf, Theo learns to show more compassion.

Corey Bryant (Michael Johnston): Also a Chimera, Corey debuts in Teen Wolf season 5. In the end, he’s shown to be in a happy relationship with Mason.
