Teen Mom star Catelynn (Lowell) Baltierra says she and her daughters still have a relationship with her birth daughter Carly, who she gave birth to while filming MTV's hit show 16 and Pregnant, despite the ups and downs of the adoption process. Catelynn, now 29, had Carly with her then-boyfriend Tyler Baltierra. The couple put her up for adoption, and she was adopted by Teresa and Brandon Davis, who agreed to an open adoption with visits as Carly grows up. Visits with Carly have largely not been filmed for TV, and the Davises are pretty camera shy.
After Carly's birth, Catelynn and Tyler have kept filming for reality TV. They appeared in the 16 and Pregnant spinoff show, Teen Mom, and then again on the fifth season of Teen Mom entitled Teen Mom OG, which revisited the original women who were on the show, as well as season three of Couples Therapy. Tyler and Catelynn's relationship has also progressed since they had Carly. In 2015, they got married and had a daughter, Novalee. They also now have a 2-year-old daughter named Vaeda and a 2-month-old girl named Rya.
In and interview with E! Tuesday, Catelynn talked about her relationship with Carly, who is now 12, as well as Carly's relationship with her biological sisters. She said the Davises send pictures of Carly to her, and she sends them pictures of her daughters to Carly. She said visits to Carly happen approximately every two years. "The last visit we had last summer. Carly just wanted to be with her sisters all the time and play with them," Catelynn told E! "...As long as our girls can have a relationship and a bond for a lifetime, that's all that matters to me."
Some fans have said that they wished the Davises would come on camera more so that they could see Carly, but Catelynn said that she's just grateful the Davises have managed such a unique and stressful situation. "I think people really need to understand that adoptive parents go through grief and loss also. They're not able to have their own children, which is a huge loss within itself. Tyler and I are blessed, and we do love them for how much they let us be involved, that they actually care to have visits and they love to get together with our kids and obviously we love to get together with their kids."
With fans largely unable to see Carly on Teen Mom, getting to hear that her relationship with Catelynn and her children has progressed and that it is still very positive is a big deal. It seems like Catelynn is respecting the Davises privacy despite pressure from fans, which is probably what's best for her relationship with the Davises, and thus Carly. One can hardly blame the Davises for wanting to stay out of the reality TV spotlight, especially when their child is the main point of interest. Hopefully, the two families can maintain a positive relationship as the children grow up.
