MTV’s Teen Mom follows multiple young women through their lives as mothers. As of 2011, Leah Messer is one of the many moms on the series’ Teen Mom 2 follow-up. From Elkview, West Virginia, the TV personality was a cheerleader whose life was turned around when she became pregnant with twin girls.

At just 17 years old, Leah Messer joined Teen Mom with Aliannah and Aleeah, whom she had with her then-boyfriend Corey Simms. She was struggling to focus on school and her twins, especially after learning Ali had been diagnosed with Titin Muscular Dystrophy. She attempted to keep up her relationship with him, but the two broke up, and she started a relationship with Rob Kidd. After that ended, it led to a short-lived marriage between Leah and Corey in 2010, which ultimately ended due to her infidelity.

In 2011, Leah Messer had to make a choice between Corey Simms and her other love interest, Jeremy Calvert. She chose Jeremy and, eventually, the two were engaged. After a pregnancy announcement during their engagement, she led audiences to believe that she had suffered from a miscarriage. However, in 2020, she revealed that she had actually had an abortion. She said that she was questioning whether she should have a child with Jeremy at the time, and that her close family and friends convinced her to lie about it. After the two of them tied the knot, she gave birth to their daughter Adalynn in 2013. She filed for divorce in 2014. Now, Leah is a single self-proclaimed “girl mom,” as well as the author of a book called Hope, Grace and Faith, which tells the story of her life through toxic relationships and multiple marriages.

Leah Messer has over 2 million followers on Instagram, where she frequently posts photos of herself and her daughters. “Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had and dealing with fears you didn’t know existed,” Leah wrote in a post, quoting author Linda Wooten. The 29-year-old said that she is done having kids. Alas, she said on Instagram that she ideally would like to have a son. Recently, Leah tried dating but has yet to find a match perfect for herself and her daughters. Having to already deal with two father figures, she said that her daughters’ feelings will always come first, and that she doesn’t want them to be confused about another man in their lives.

During her time on Teen Mom, Leah Messer was taking medication for anxiety and stress. She was eventually ordered to take a drug test, as her intake of medications became labeled as addiction. Since then, she's been seen on the path to recovery. Recently, Leah went through a breast cancer scare after finding a lump while doing a self-check. She continued on the show, saying that she wanted to do it for her daughters and the fans. Leah said that if her story could touch even one viewer, then her job was done. Teen Mom fans are anticipating hearing about her health journey as it could potentially save lives through bringing more awareness to TV.
