Throughout Teen Mom 2 season 11, Kailyn Lowry and Leah Messer's formerly close friendship has been on hold, and their personal relationships with co-star Briana DeJesus may be one reason why they don't get along. Leah and Kailyn were both cast for the second Teen Mom franchise after appearing on 16 And Pregnant seasons 1 and 2, respectively. Despite their differences, the pair soon found themselves becoming friends on and offscreen. Kailyn and Leah have shared their various hangouts online over the years, and when the Lowry and Messer clans vacationed in the Dominican Republic together last summer, fans assumed that Kailyn and Leah were closer than ever.
Unfortunately for fans of their friendship, Leah and Kailyn have been dropping hints about their estrangement for months, while Teen Mom 2 season 11 has been airing. In the midst of her reheated drama involving Briana and ex-husband Javi Marroquin in March, Kailyn unfollowed everyone on Instagram except 11 people, including Leah. After Kailyn expressed that she was unable to trust anyone, Leah fired back with cryptic Instagram posts concerning troubled friendships, and mistaking kindness for weakness. During the first part of the season 11 reunion special, Kailyn appeared remotely after refusing to join Leah, Briana, Ashley Jones, and Jade Cline in person. Tensions ran high at the mere mention of Kailyn's name, and Briana and Jade's dislike towards Kailyn eventually led to Leah and Ashley walking off the stage.
While Kailyn and Briana have their own set of problems, a recent Instagram Story by Leah revealed how Kailyn and Briana's feud has inadvertently led to their own strained relationship. According to Leah, Kailyn became upset with her friend when Leah liked an Instagram post from Briana. This happened after Leah filmed the spin-off Teen Mom: Family Reunion alongside Briana, Ashley, and Jade. "I was unaware at the time that a fat-shaming situation had occurred between Briana and Kail," Leah explained. She added, "This caused tension and hurt feelings that I hope can one day be resolved."
Briana has definitely not been shy about the fact that she doesn't like Kailyn, especially after Kailyn sued Briana for defamation shortly before Kailyn and Leah left for the Dominican Republic. After battling it out in court for almost a year, a Florida judge dismissed Kailyn's lawsuit in April, and Briana has been gloating about her legal victory ever since. In fact, Briana even celebrated Kailyn's loss of time and money with an over-the-top party last weekend. While Leah didn't attend the get-together and hasn't spoken about it, it doesn't look like the move has brought Leah any closer to being in Kailyn's good graces.
It's hard to guess whether Kailyn and Leah will eventually reconcile, but Teen Mom fans shouldn't expect to see this former duo reunite on the show. While MTV is apparently looking to incorporate the casts of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 into a new series called Teen Mom Legacy, Kailyn has already confirmed that she won't be involved. In addition, Kailyn recently announced that she is quitting her role with MTV permanently after the conclusion of Teen Mom 2 season 11 next week. Kailyn has not only chosen to distance herself from Leah, but from the franchise that gave her success in the first place.
The conclusion of Teen Mom 2 season 11 airs May 24 at 8 p.m. EST on MTV.
