The article contains spoilers for Ted Lasso's season 3 finale below!Ted Lasso gets a confusing season 4 update after the series was presumed to have ended with season 3. Jason Sudeikis stars as the titular character, an overly optimistic American football coach hired to manage an English football team despite having no prior experience in the sport. The AppleTV+ series proved immensely popular with both critics and audiences, earning seven Emmy Awards during its first two seasons.

On the heels of Ted Lasso's season 3 finale, series co-creator and Coach Beard actor Brendan Hunt recently discussed the sports comedy's future in a Reddit AMA (under the username RealCoachBeard) despite reports the series has completed its run. When asked about a potential season 4 or possible spinoffs, Hunt revealed that the door is still wide open for a continuation of the Ted Lasso franchise, but nothing has been confirmed. Read what Hunt said below:

"My pat answer, that is also 100% true: We don't know. We need a break and will take one presently. Nothing has been ruled out, everything is possible; but that includes the possibility that we're done. We won't know until we've sat with it for a while, decompressed, etc."

How Can Ted Lasso Continue

Nate, Beard, and Roy as the coaches of Richmond in Ted Lasso season 3's finale

After seeing AFC Richmond relegated, then promoted, and nearly winning the Premier League title throughout three strong seasons, Lasso's character journey has come to a definitive conclusion. The affable coach left his indelible mark on Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), the management of the football club, as well as the players he inspired along the way. With the AFC Richmond chapter behind him, immortalized by Trent Crimm's (James Lance) book The Richmond Way, Lasso aims to reconnect with his wife and son. However, due to the ensemble nature of the show, Ted Lasso can continue in a variety of ways without the coach himself.

Workplace comedies repeatedly prove popular, giving a humorous glimpse into various places of employment, including The Office, Abbott Elementary, 30 Rock, and Animal Control. If Apple chooses to continue Ted Lasso, the franchise can refocus on the AFC Richmond club, centering on the remaining team members to include the eclectic management led by the perpetually grumpy Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Rebecca as she ushers in a new era of the club while starting a women's team, and the players as they bring AFC Richmond into Europe during their UEFA Champions League campaign.

Character-centric spinoffs can also be another avenue for Ted Lasso's continuation, focusing on a single individual and their journey post-Lasso. Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) has undergone a unique arc from model to entrepreneur throughout the show while Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh) has taken a leadership role among the players and earned a place on the Nigerian national team despite fierce opposition billionaire Edwin Akufo (Sam Richardson). With Ted Lasso only just completed, audiences will have to be patient to see what's next for the beloved series.
