Jamie Tartt is one of many Ted Lasso characters who have experienced immense growth throughout the show’s run and a new storyline in season 3 with Zava could show just how much Jamie’s changed. When Ted Lasso first became coach of AFC Richmond, Jamie was their young star on loan from Manchester City but struggled with ego problems and poor sportsmanship. Throughout seasons 1 and 2, viewers were able to see Jamie change into a team player, but an upcoming storyline in Ted Lasso season 3 provides an even greater opportunity for Jamie to show his growth.

A big plot line of Ted Lasso season 3, episode 1 revolved around signing football superstar Zava, who left Italian side Juventus to join the Premier League. Just about every character was ecstatic that Rebecca managed to nab the highly sought-after player, but Jamie was an exception. Jamie’s had a complicated history with AFC Richmond and his teammates, and adding Zava to the mix could potentially complicate this further. More importantly, it will allow Jamie to step up and show how much he’s grown with Zava likely to be used as a foil for the striker.

Zava Will Be A Test For Jamie Tartt In Ted Lasso Season 3

Halfway through Ted Lasso season 1, passionate and enthusiastic footballer Dani Rojas, whose catchphrase is “football is life” was able to make his debut for AFC Richmond after having been plagued with injury. The addition of Dani to the squad made for a hard adjustment for Jamie, who had far and away been Richmond’s star player up until that point. This was made even harder by the fact that Jamie was recalled back to Manchester City just as he was starting to bond with the team, leaving him with a sense of betrayal that caused regression in his character rather than growth.

After returning to Richmond from Manchester City in Ted Lasso season 2, Jamie really showed his growth by taking a step back when needed and setting his ego aside to put the time first. In the Ted Lasso season 2 finale, he even let Dani take the big game-winning penalty kick instead of taking it himself. However, Zava joining AFC Richmond will give Jamie some competition and will challenge him to show just how much he’s changed. Jamie will be tested to see if he can put his best self forward for the team in order or if he’ll end up in an ego battle with Zava.

Why Jamie Is Right To Be Hesitant About Zava Coming To AFC Richmond

While Jamie’s lack of enthusiasm around Zava’s signing could easily be read as jealousy and his feeling threatened, he does have reason to be hesitant about the move. Zava’s addition to Ted Lasso season 3 represents who Jamie was at the beginning of the series but even worse. Jamie knew just how much his being a poor team player hurt the team before he changed his ways and Zava will likely be no different.

Though Zava does have some potential to grow, his current attitude suggests trouble is ahead for Richmond in terms of team bonding and chemistry. It was ultimately Rebecca standing up to Zava and calling him out that led to him deciding to sign with Richmond, proving that there is some goodness like him just as there was in Jamie. In Ted Lasso season 3, Jamie will not just have the chance to show his growth but to show his commitment to Richmond and his teammates, and potentially help Zava see the value of being a team player.
