Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Ted Lasso season 3, episode 3!Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt have become more friendly as Ted Lasso has continued, but they need to become real friends before the show can officially end. The current AFC Richmond coach and player have long had a complicated relationship that has been at the center of the show. Ted Lasso season 3 has continued to explore the ways that their respect for each other has grown through moments like Jamie trying to help after Roy and Keeley's breakup. This has only become possible as both men move past what happened before and attempt to forge a new relationship after putting their rivalry aside.

Since Roy and Jamie have been two of Ted Lasso's main characters, there is great interest in how season 3 will wrap up their stories as the show heads towards its planned conclusion. The new episodes have so far focused on Roy's insecurities about being a coach and dealing with Keeley's breakup, while Jamie has become a positive team player who has become increasingly jealous of the attention that Zava receives. Ted Lasso season 3 has used both to help show how the two former rivals are now at least friendly toward the other. However, the show cannot end until Roy and Jamie's friendship becomes more real.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Is Giving Roy & Jamie A Path To Become Friends

Jamie and Roy stand together in practice

The good news is that Roy offering to train Jamie in Ted Lasso season 3, episode 3 gives the show a path to make them real friends. The nature of their relationship started to change during season 2 after Roy hugged Jamie after the star player got into an argument with his father. While the respect between them has grown, it is still a stretch to say that they are friends. They are merely not rivals and more so acquaintances and colleagues at this point. But, the decision for Roy to train Jamie means that a real friendship can blossom out of the rest of their Ted Lasso season 3 stories.

Even before the training sessions begin, Ted Lasso has now found a way for Roy and Jamie to spend a lot of time together one on one. Importantly, this will come in a situation where both men want to be there instead of them being forced to spend time together. As Ted Lasso season 3 has shown Roy contemplating his legacy and reflecting on how he left the game, he could view training Jamie as a way to help make sure Richmond's confident striker does not let his prime slip by.

Why A Roy & Jamie Friendship Would Be Perfect For Ted Lasso Season 3's Ending

Jamie hugs Roy in the locker room in Ted Lasso.

Ted Lasso season 3 ending with Roy and Jamie being friends would be the perfect conclusion for their relationship. After spending so much time constantly tearing each other down as part of their rivalry, this new storyline allows them to play a part in building each other up. If it goes correctly, Roy and Jamie's friendship will be born from Jamie proving to Roy that he's a good coach and Roy proving to Jamie that he can still be Richmond's best player. Ted Lasso season 3 wrapping up their stories by showing such tremendous growth would be an excellent way to show their maturity and Ted's impact on their lives.
