Ted Lasso season 3 could continue Rebecca's confessional trend. Ted Lasso's first and second seasons each included a scene in which Rebecca heads down to Ted's office to confess something to him. Season 1 saw her confess the real reason she hired him - she wanted to ensure the football club would fail to spite her ex-husband - whereas season 2 saw her confess to her affair with football player Sam Obisanya after they connected on a dating app.

These two scenes have created an interesting parallel for the show, one that could be repeated in Ted Lasso season 3. Ted even remarks on it the second time it happens: "Same time, same place last year, you dropped another truth bomb on me." At this point, there's little doubt this parallel will continue into season 3, but the question is what Rebecca will confess this time, and how it might affect her and Ted's relationship.

Both confessional scenes have progressed Ted’s and Rebecca's relationship, bringing them closer together. The first confession scene has Rebecca admit to Ted that she only hired him because she thought he would fail, and he forgave her. That was the moment they truly acknowledged they had become friends. Ted Lasso season 2 had Rebecca confess her affair with Sam, something only a few people close to her knew about. Trusting Ted with that information solidified their relationship and proved just how much Rebecca had come to rely on Ted. A likely scenario for Ted Lasso season 3's confessional scene would be another progression of their relationship. It's been speculated that Ted and Rebecca will end up in a romantic entanglement by the end of the show, and the next confession scene in Ted Lasso season 3 could prove that to be true.

One of the most interesting things about these scenes is how they've been framed. Season 1's confessional scene has a shot of Rebecca and Ted facing one another. It's shot from quite far away, but the implication is clear. Ted steps toward Rebecca and their friendship can truly begin once he forgives her. Ted Lasso's season 2 confession scene has a replica of that same shot - Ted steps towards Rebecca after she's confessed, but this shot is framed more intimately, the camera much closer to them, proving the progression of their relationship not just in the dialogue but in the actual framing of the scene as well. Season 3's confessional scene could force them to take one step closer to one another, as the camera moves in even closer to them, a physical representation of how far they've come since they met.

Rebecca and Ted's relationship moving in a romantic direction has a foundation in the show. Both characters have been burned in their love lives - choosing the wrong partner and distancing themselves from those they love. Ted brings out the best in Rebecca - the side that cares, cheers for her team, and forges lasting friendships. Rebecca, likewise, pulls Ted Lasso back from the brink of darkness time and again - most obviously when she gets him out of his funk on Christmas day, but also when he has a panic attack in the karaoke club. While their relationship can remain just as impactful if it stays platonic, many signs point to Rebecca's next confessional scene taking her and Ted's relationship to a new level.

Before the show revealed that Rebecca was talking to Sam on the dating app, it very purposefully made it seem as though it may have been Ted. Ted Lasso's writing is done with purpose, and this is unlikely to prove the exception. Ted Lasso's season 3 confessional scene may yet transpire to be something completely different depending on the new context provided by season 3. For now, Rebecca confessing her love for Ted seems to be the most likely scenario.
