While Ted Lasso season 3, episode 12 satisfyingly capped off the show's characters, emotional arcs, and overall story, the episode still left some questions unanswered. As was always going to be difficult for a show with a cast as big as Ted Lasso's, the show could not answer every single question fans had going into the finale. Despite most of the big questions being answered, such as what comes next for Ted Lasso, Rebecca, and Roy Kent among others, the more open-ended elements still may need explaining.
With Ted Lasso season 3 ending, talk has naturally turned to whether the show will return for a fourth season. As such, some of these unanswered questions could serve as the basis for future stories told in Ted Lasso's world. However, with Ted Lasso season 4 unconfirmed as of yet, here is every question that season 3, episode 12 failed to answer and what they could mean for the lovable characters of the show.
10 Did Ted Lasso & His Wife Get Back Together?
The catalyst for Ted Lasso's story centered on the divorce between Ted and his wife, Michelle. The heartbreak that resulted from this caused Ted to leave for England, before realizing the error in his ways in Ted Lasso season 3 and returning to spend more time with his son. While the show made clear that Michelle fell out of love with Ted, some hints from Ted Lasso season 3 could have been pointing towards a reconciliation between the former couple.
From Michelle's new boyfriend seemingly distancing himself from her and Henry to longing looks after interacting with Ted, season 3 seemed to hint that Michelle may have been regretting divorcing Ted. However, Ted Lasso season 3, episode 12 failed to answer whether Ted and his ex-wife got back together, something which may have benefited the series overall. One of Ted Lasso's biggest strengths has been the realism with which it tackles many of its themes, love being one of them. 9 Did Rebecca Officially Become A Mom?
One of the subplots of Ted Lasso season 3 centered on Rebecca and her search for love in her life. After divorcing Rupert, ending her relationship with Sam, and looking into whether she can still have children, Ted Lasso season 3 ended with Rebecca reuniting with her mysterious Amsterdam lover, Matteo van der Grijn's character. While the two were shown to be a couple by the end of Ted Lasso season 3, episode 12, the season failed to confirm whether Rebecca became a mother. However, as Matteo van der Grijn's character has a daughter, Rebecca's wish of having children seemingly came true in one way or another.
8 Did Keeley Get Back Together With Roy Or Jamie?
The story of Roy, Jamie, and Keeley in Ted Lasso season 3's finale centered on which of the former two the latter would get back together with, something the show did not explicitly answer - or so many think. After having a brief fistfight over who should get back together with Keeley, Roy, and Jamie turn up at her doorstep, telling her to choose. Keeley subsequently kicks them out, which all but answers the question: Keeley will not get back together with either Roy or Jamie.
Ted Lasso season 3 has given Keeley a story without the need for Roy or Jamie, meaning her rejecting both of their advances works better for her character. After spending much of Ted Lasso seasons 1 and 2 in the shadow of her respective partners, season 3 was able to give Keeley a story of her own. The ending of the episode also hinted at her involvement in an A.F.C Richmond women's team, meaning Keeley getting back together with Roy or Jamie was not a question that needed answering.
7 How Did Sam Join The Nigerian National Team?
Sam's ending in Ted Lasso season 3 saw him finally play for the Nigerian national team, begging the question of how he managed this after his earlier obstacles with Edwin Akufo. Earlier in the season, it was established that Akufo denied Sam's entry into Nigeria's team by bribing the officials out of spite for Sam not joining Akufo's team in Ted Lasso season 2. With Ted Lasso season 3's ending showing Sam now as part of the team, the question of how he got past Akufo's bribes is not answered.The reality is, Akufo has likely lost credibility in the world of football. Ted Lasso season 3 saw Akufo attempting to form a "Super League," something Rebecca put a stop to by appealing to other football club owners regarding their love of the game. As a result, Akufo threw a tantrum, splattering his guests with food. It is likely that this was released to the press, potentially resulting in Akufo's respect and power waning. Through this, and Sam's activism for Nigeria earlier in the show, the Richmond player could have finally fulfilled his dream of representing his country.
6 Why Wasn't Ted At Coach Beard's Wedding?
One of the biggest questions following the ending of Ted Lasso season 3 is why Ted was not at Coach Beard's wedding. The show seemed to portray that Beard's wedding was only a short time after Ted left for Kansas, which is likely why the latter was not present. Beard and Jane have been shown to be rather spontaneous in their actions, meaning a wedding a few days after Ted left is not out of the realm of possibility. With Ted getting settled back in the USA, he likely did not have time to attend Beard's wedding despite the love the two best friends share for each other.Then again, Coach Beard's Stonehenge wedding sequence may have been part of a dream that Ted was having while on the plane back to Kansas City. The strange aesthetic and fact that Ted wasn't present in that part of the montage could have been all in Ted's head. Still, it was odd for Ted not to be present for his best friend's big day, even if it was a dream.
5 Why Did Dr. Sharon Fieldstone Return To AFC Richmond?
Ted Lasso season 3 ended with Roy sitting down to talk to Sharon Fieldstone, who returned to Richmond as the team's mental health representative. While not divulging why she returned, the answer can likely be found in the finale. Sharon was shown to be watching Richmond's final game of the season, getting very engrossed in the outcome. This, combined with her fond memories of working with the club in Ted Lasso season 2, likely made her realize that returning was in the best interests of both her and the team.
4 What's Next For Trent Crimm After Finishing His Book?
One of the bigger focuses of Ted Lasso season 3 fell to Trent Crimm and his book centered on AFC Richmond. After finishing the book as The Lasso Way, Trent was convinced to publish it as The Richmond Way after Ted insisted the team's success is not down to solely him. Now the question arises over what will happen with Trent after finishing the book. A man of Trent's talents could continue as a writer, potentially writing a follow-up novel about Richmond's European exploits. Similarly, he could work for Keeley's PR firm given his knowledge of the press and other similar situations.
3 What's Next For AFC Richmond?
When concerning AFC Richmond, Ted Lasso's season 3 finale subtly answered what is next for the club. Throughout the episode, the Champions League was mentioned. The Champions League is Europe's most prestigious football tournament, in which the top teams from all European companies compete in a competition to see who is the best team on the continent. Despite not winning the Premier League, Richmond still qualified for this competition, meaning a European tournament awaits the squad next.
2 Will Ted Lasso Ever Come Back To Richmond?
Another unanswered question from Ted Lasso season 3 was whether Ted will ever return to Richmond. The episode often portrayed Ted as steadfast in his decision, rarely even considering changing his mind. However, it could be the case that Ted returns once Henry grows up. Managers returning to prior football teams is not uncommon, and Ted could return in the future. This could be a few years down the line, as a means of not tarnishing Ted's satisfying ending and giving the cast and crew of the show a break to pursue other projects.
1 Will There Be Any Ted Lasso Spinoffs?
In terms of potential Ted Lasso spin-offs, one could be possible after the ending of season 3. The last scene involving Keeley and Rebecca saw them potentially starting up a women's team at AFC Richmond. With women's football growing more popular in the UK, especially after the women's national team won the UEFA European Championship in 2022, a spin-off centering on a female team at Richmond is certainly possible. This would allow the show to continue in the same vein as Ted Lasso, only with a fresh, new cast, and a brand-new story that honors Ted Lasso's ending.
