Will Apple TV+ release Ted Lasso season 2? Here's everything we know. The sports-themed comedy series has been a hit for the streaming service. It follows an American college football coach who is hired to lead an English Premier League team, despite not having any knowledge of English-style football, a.k.a. soccer. Ted Lasso season 1 originally aired between August and October 2020.

Ted Lasso stars Saturday Night Live alum Jason Sudeikis in the titular role. When Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) becomes the new owner of AFC Richmond, she plans to sabotage the football club as an act of revenge on her ex-husband, one of the team's loyal supporters. Even though Ted clearly knows little about soccer strategy, he uses his charm and creativity to win over the locals, all the while trying to save his marriage with wife Michelle (Andrea Anders). The first season on Apple TV+ consists of 10 episodes.

In 2020, Ted Lasso season 1 gained a strong following because of its fish-out-of-water premise and underdog storyline. During the penultimate episode, the series protagonist learns about Rebecca's motivations for hiring him, but doesn't express any resentment because he understands her motivations. Still, Ted's job isn't completely secure, as a loss to Manchester City will result in the relegation of AFC Richmond. Here's everything we expect for Ted Lasso season 2 on Apple TV+.

Ted Lasso Season 2 Renewal

Apple greenlit Ted Lasso season 2 just days after the series premiere. Previously, other original series like The Morning Show and Dickinson were re-upped before their respective releases, so it seems that Apple doesn't have a problem committing to at least two seasons for their flagship shows. In fact, Ted Lasso season 3 was ordered less than a month after the first installment ended.

According to actor Nick Mohammed (via Decider), production may begin for Ted Lasso season 2 as early as January 2021. In that case, Apple TV+ could presumably release new episodes later in the year. Since new seasons of 30-minute comedies typically release once per year, we'll predict that Ted Lasso season 2 will debut in August 2021.

Ted Lasso Season 2 Story

Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso season 1 on Apple TV+ ends with heartbreak, as AFC Richmond nearly saves their Premier League status but ends up losing to Manchester City. Sudeikis' character learns a valuable lesson about English football strategy, as he realizes that a mere tie will allow him to avoid relegation. Unfortunately, though, he celebrates a match-tying goal too soon and fails to properly manage his players in the immediate aftermath. Thanks to a strong business relationship with Rebecca, however, Ted manages to keep his job and urges the team to focus on the future.

Moving forward, Ted Lasso season 2 will seemingly be a redemption story, at least if the writers take a traditional storytelling approach. What's especially intriguing, though, is the idea that the narrative focus won't necessarily be on AFC Richmond's potential promotion, but rather on the development of the characters and their personal lives. Whatever the case, expect Ted to be much more informed about English football during Ted Lasso season 2.
