Ted Lasso season 2 is one-third of the way through filming. Since its August release, the Apple TV+ series has been a smashing success, landing Golden Globe nominations and already snagging a season 3 renewal. The show centers around an American college football coach hired to head a football team in the United Kingdom, despite not being familiar with the English term of football. The series stars Jason Sudeikis, who reprises the title character from a series of sports commercials for NBC Sports that aired during the Premier League.

The show became Apple's highest-rated original series for its ten-episode first season, and its audience popularity has been steadily growing. A lot of the praise comes from the cheerful humor the show generates. Sudeikis was a longtime cast member of Saturday Night Live and has starred in several comedic films like Horrible Bosses and Hall Pass. Simultaneously, co-creator Bill Lawrence is a veteran of television comedy for creating Scrubs and Spin City. The sports comedy is effortless to absorb due to its human optimism and relatable characters. Plus, the robust British cast includes Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, and Brett Goldstein.

Deadline reports filming for the second season is a third of the way complete during a brief interview with Bill Lawerence. The Scrubs creator says he's grateful to work at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed multiple productions.

While Lawrence previously said he doesn't think the show will last past its third season, with its two Golden Globe nominations, he now says he's not entirely sure when it will end but that everyone will keep doing it as long as it is enjoyable. "We have no idea how long the show is going to last now, except I bet much like Ted himself, we’ll keep doing it as long as it’s fun,” he told Deadline. “I said jokingly to somebody else, ‘You’ll know the show’s over if Ted ever suddenly enjoys a glass of British tea.’”

In the past, Lawrence said he knows how the series will end, regardless of how many seasons it runs. Ted Lasso season 1 ended on a bittersweet note, with Richmond F.C. relegated but Ted having built the team and club staff into a proper family unit. He learned of the duplicity in his hiring yet was kept on as manager by a newly-invested Rebecca.

It will be interesting to see what the next season brings and where the stories will lead. Not much is known about the plot of the second season, and no release date has been revealed, but the wheels are in motion to get Ted Lasso season 2 on Apple TV+ as soon as possible.
