For those of you who may not know, Martin Scorsese's next film (currently in post-production) is Shutter Island. The movie is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane (author of Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone). It's about a US Marshall and his new partner who are sent to "investigate the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a prison for the criminally insane, and is presumed to be hiding out on the remote Shutter Island."
Adding to that great plot, Shutter Island has a very impressive cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley, Mark Ruffalo, Emily Mortimer, Max von Sydow, Michelle Williams and Jackie Earle Haley, and of course having Scorsese behind the camera, this is really shaping up to be another winner from the legendary director.
Thanks to RopeofSilicon, via a scan from a Berlin newspaper, we've got a look at the early teaser poster for the film. Although not the absolutely greatest of quality, it's still good enough to give us a good look - and it's really something:
Although this wouldn't be enough for the final poster, mainly because it doesn't tell us much about what the film is actually about (not to mention who stars in it), it's pretty fantastic for a teaser because it does exactly that... tease.
Whatever did happen to patient 67?...
Scorsese is without a doubt one of the best directors of all time, and that warrants any film he makes to at least be given a chance. Even when he makes films at a lower level than he's capable of (Gangs of New York springs straight to mind), they're still at least entertaining.
So far films based on the novels of Dennis Lehane have proven to make for gripping drama, and I'm sure Shutter Island, especially under the direction of Scorsese, will be no different.
What are your thoughts on this poster and the film in general?
Shutter Island is scheduled for an October 2, 2009 release in the US, and an October 9, 2009 release in the UK.
