As Link begins to explore the various terrains of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, especially The Depths, the Gloom is something that will likely cause him a lot of trouble by destroying his hearts and lowering his max health. Since The Gloom is so prevalent, there are various ways to resist it including the Tunic of the Depths.

Other than certain recipes, there are not many ways to resist the Gloom in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom aside from the aforementioned Tunic of the Depths. This Tunic is one piece of armor, not a set, that provides resistance to the Gloom by giving Link one false heart that the Gloom will affect before affecting his own.

Unlock The Plains Bargainer Statue

The Tunic of the Depths, unlike many other pieces of armor in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, cannot be obtained through a chest. This piece of armor is simply purchased from The Plains Bargainer Statue in The Depths. First, the statue must be unlocked. In order to unlock this statue, head first into The Depths and pickup some Poes.

A Poe is a blue glowing little whisp that can be found all over The Depths, usually in large groups. Gather a little over 10 of them to complete this first part, or around 165 to avoid doing it later for the cost of the Tunic, and then head back to Lookout Landing in Central Hyrule.

Once arriving at Zelda: TOTK's Lookout Landing, track down the small statue that, until now, usually only said the word "Poes" when interacted with and nothing more. Now when interacting with it, the statue will ask Link to offer it some Poes that are lost souls it can help. Once offering them, it will allow you to further trade them to it in exchange for goods.

Don't purchase anything and then interact again and Link will now be able to ask where the other statue is. In exchange for 10 Poes, it will be marked on the map. So head down into the depths to find it using the indicator on the map. It's rather large and hard to miss.

How To Get The Tunic Of The Depths

Now that Link has found The Plains Bargainer Statue, get up close to it and the option to pray to it will appear. Once doing so, this statue will open up a store that features several other items including other armor already obtained and various goods. One of the specific items it will offer that the smaller Lookout Landing statue did not is the Tunic of The Depths.

This Tunic can be purchased in exchange for 150 Poes. If not already collected, Link can collect them and then return to the statue at any point later in the game, however, it's recommended to acquire this Tunic as early as possible.

Another good piece of armor to grab early is the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Climbing Gear Set which allows Link to climb faster and is fairly easy to acquire.

The closest Lightroot Travel Point is the Stakijat Lightroot which can be seen from the statue, so be sure to interact with that so that Link can fast travel back to The Plains Bargainer Statue at any point. Once the Tunic is put on, it will provide a base defense of 3 and provide Link with the fake heart to take Gloom damage.

In addition to this heart taking damage in place of Link's own, it can also repair itself after so much time as long as no more Gloom damage is taken. The Tunic of the Depths is a great early game piece of armor for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and will make exploring a little less dangerous.
