The 30-year-old explained that the brain tumor was found while her mother, Andrea was undergoing treatment for another cancer. Swift revealed that while shooting her documentary, Miss Americana for Netflix, that her mother’s cancer had returned for a second time in March of 2019. Andrea was first diagnosed with cancer four years ago and Swift confirmed last year that her mother was fighting a second round. Swift told the magazine that everyone’s mother was an important part of their lives, but for the singer, her mother has been "the guiding force."

The "Shake It Off" singer went on to say that before every big decision she always spoke with her mother about the pros and cons. Swift explained that her mother had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments and that they were taking a toll on her body. The entire family was in shock when the brain tumor was discovered because none of the symptoms matched what a patient with brain cancer goes through, saying, "It’s just been a really hard time for us as a family."

Swift explained that her mother and treatments were the reason for the extremely short touring schedule after the release of her latest album Lover. With her mother’s health up in the air, the singer is not sure exactly what will happen as the family is still looking into which treatment options are best for her. Fans of the singer are sending positive thoughts for a quick and healthy recovery.
