Music giant Taylor Swift this morning announced a Folklore recording movie that will release on Disney+ tonight. Folklore is Swift's eighth studio album and released July 24 of this year. Created during the coronavirus pandemic, it was the singer/songwriter's first surprise album, announced only the morning before its release. Folklore marked a departure of sorts for Swift, honing in on a more indie folk style she's displayed on past songs. The album was lauded for this, as well as its emotional, introspective lyrics appropriate for the time.

Prior to Folklore, Swift released her album Lover in August 2019. It was one of several Swift albums to receive a concert film. Titled Taylor Swift: City of Lover Concert, it aired on ABC and released exclusively on Hulu and Disney+. Swift's 1989 and Reputation albums earned a similar treatment, debuting films on Apple Music and Netflix, respectively. The artist continued her relationship with Netflix via a documentary titled Miss Americana, which released January 31, 2020. Named after a song on Lover, "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince," the documentary chronicled major events in Swift's life, with the singer offering her own perspective on them.

Now, Swift has announced another film companion to her work. A Folklore recording movie will release on Disney+ tonight at midnight PST. Swift took to social media today to make the announcement, as well as release the trailer. The video shows Swift singing songs from Folklore in an intimate setting. She also discusses her motivation behind making the album. Check out the Folklore film trailer below:

Considering Folklore itself was a surprise album, it makes sense the film announcement comes as a surprise to fans as well. Based on the trailer, the recording film will maintain Folklore's earthy aesthetic. This works well, considering a big concert film is out of the question due to the ongoing pandemic. Additionally, a smaller, more casual venue suits the album very well. The interviews about the making of Folklore are a special treat, considering it was created under such unusual circumstances.

The film releasing on Disney+ makes a lot of sense. The Lover concert was Swift's most recent film release before this, and it also came from Disney. It seems the singer has developed a relationship with the company she's interested in continuing. Notably, at this point Swift has worked with three of the biggest companies in the world of music and streaming: Apple, Netflix, and Disney. The Folklore recording film is undeniably a big get for Disney+. However, Taylor Swift is clearly open to returning to another streaming service in the future.
