Taylor Sheridan spent 20 years working as an actor in television shows before he decided to become a writer and later a director. According to Deadline, Sheridan's shift was spurred by a dispute over his pay on Sons of Anarchy, and he hasn't looked back since.

More recently, Sheridan's return to television as a showrunner brought him to new heights, with all three of his narrative shows becoming hits on Paramount+. Vile (2012) - 5.0

Directed by Sheridan, this horror film opens with four people kidnapped by a mad man and locked in a room with six strangers. With only 22 hours to escape, they must undergo harrowing pain in order to get out.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Sheridan doesn't consider Vile to be his directorial debut, as he did it as a favor for his friend and the film's writer-producer Eric Beck. That said, he said he learned valuable lessons keeping "the ship pointed straight," and the experience helped inform his official directorial debut, Wind River.

Without Remorse (2021) - 5.8

Rewritten by Sheridan after decades of being stuck in development, Without Remorse is a film adaptation of a Tom Clancy novel. The story revolves around Michael B. Jordan as John Kelly, a U.S. Navy SEAL on a path to avenge his pregnant wife and unit members after they are murdered by Russian hitmen.

Originally set for a theatrical release through Paramount Pictures, the film was delayed and acquired by Amazon Studios, who released it on their streaming service. The rest of the cast includes Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), and Guy Pearce (Memento).

Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021) - 6.0

Directed and co-written by Sheridan, Those Who Wish Me Dead is set in the Montana wilderness and tracks the journey of a boy (Finn Little) and a smokejumper (Angelina Jolie) on the run from assassins after the boy witnesses the murder of his father.

The film was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max and boasts a supporting cast of Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road), and Jon Bernthal (The Punisher).

Sicario: Day Of The Soldado (2018) - 7.1

Written by Sheridan, Sicario: Day Of The Soldado finds characters from the original film dealing with an escalation of the drug war at the U.S.-Mexico border. When cartels start trafficking terrorists into the U.S., CIA agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) reteams with the mercenary Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro) to fight them.

The film was commercially successful and actors including Isabela Merced (Instant Family), Catherine Keener (Being John Malkovich), and Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket) joined the growing franchise.

Hell Or High Water (2016) - 7.6

The sophomore script from Taylor Sheridan, Hell Or High Water follows two brothers, one of whom was just released from prison, as they carry out a series of bank heists to hold onto their family ranch. However, it's not long before two Texas Rangers are on their tail.

Directed by David Mackenzie (Outlaw King), the film was nominated for four Oscars, including a Best Original Screenplay nomination for Sheridan. One of the best Westerns on NetflixHell Or High Water's cast features Chris Pine and Ben Foster as the outlaw brothers and Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham as the agents hunting them down.

Sicario (2015) - 7.6

The first film written by Sheridan, Sicario, one of the best movies about cartels, focuses on Kate Macer (Emily Blunt), an idealistic FBI agent thrown into a government task force to aid in the war against drugs. Once in the thick of it, she quickly realizes that not everything is as by-the-book as she once thought.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune), the film was nominated for three Oscars, including Best Cinematography for legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins. The rest of the ensemble is filled out by Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice), and Victor Garber (Argo).

Wind River (2017) - 7.7

Sheridan's official directorial debut, Wind River takes place on a Wyoming Native American reservation, following a wildlife officer and FBI agent who join forces to investigate the murder of a young woman. As they get closer to the truth, the officer must come to terms with his own haunted past.

In addition to being written by Sheridan, the film features performances from Jeremey Renner in one of his best movies, as the wildlife officer, and Elizabeth Olsen as the FBI agent. While the film was left off much of the American awards circuit, Sheridan won the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Last Cowboy (2019-) - 7.8

Sheridan's first reality series, The Last Cowboy focuses on the high stakes world of professional reining as cowboys and cowgirls prepare for the biggest competition in the sport's history: "The Run for a Million."

The first season aired on the Paramount Network, with the second moving to CMT. Sheridan serves as an executive producer on the show dedicated to preserving the cowboy tradition through this exclusive athletic event.

Mayor Of Kingstown (2021 - ) - 8.3

The Rotten Tomatoes Average Tomatometer sits at a dismal 32%, while its Audience Score is at an impressive 89%, showing that, like Sheridan's other recent series, its popularity is driven by the viewers, not critical acclaim.

Yellowstone (2018 - ) - 8.8

Sheridan's first television show, Yellowstone depicts the Dutton family, led by head of the household, John Dutton (Kevin Costner), and their attempts to stave off the government and private developers from taking away their large family cattle ranch.

The show has grown an audience over its first four seasons, culminating in a season four premiere that brought in 14.7 million live viewers. Set in the titular year, 1883 is a prequel to Yellowstone that follows earlier generations of the Dutton family as they trek west through the Great Plains towards what will eventually become their ranch.

The show premiered to 4.9 million live viewers on the Paramount Network, the biggest cable premiere since 2015. The cast includes Western staple Sam Elliott (A Star Is Born), Isabel May (Young Sheldon), and country superstar couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
