When it comes to fans interested in a certain writer, they will generally not only check out the author's books, but any film or television adaptation of the stories. They may purchase and display products that celebrate this person and they might even get permanent ink to show just how much they adore said author.

One great example of an author with a huge fandom is the King Of Horror, Stephen King. He has written some of the most successful and popular scary stories, some of which have been made into movies and TV shows. If any fan is thinking about a tattoo inspired by this man, you may want to consider these 10 designs below.

A Unique Typewriter

A typewriter, pen or pencil can often be part of a tattoo inspired by an author, and there have even been Stephen King novels about writers who type, such as Jack Torrance in The Shining or Paul Sheldon in Misery.

Speaking of The Shining, this typewriter tat, which belongs to daviddevine22, has paper in it with a familiar print … the same print found on the carpet in The Overlook Hotel!

Other Worlds

Next up is some artwork from Pinterest, with a quote from The Dark Tower: “Go then, there are other worlds than these.” Symbols from this story have also been included here, and the great thing about a word or a phrase as a tattoo is that it can be decorated or not.

While there are so many beautiful and intriguing words that have been written by King, this line is a classic one that makes for a great tat.

A Pet Cat

Animals are often seen as tattoos and permanently put onto bodies, but this is no ordinary creature - it is a vivid black cat that was done on a Redditor by Steven Anderson at Stay True Tattoo in Dublin, California.

And it is a nod to Pet Sematary, along with the line “dead is better.” It sounds a bit morbid, but those who know this story know that it makes perfect sense.

My Heart

Another terrific tattoo was shared on Reddit, and this one shows off a pair of handcuffs, a shovel, an ax, a key to room 237 and a skull, all on top of a pile of books. This alone makes up some neat King-inspired artwork, as it combines several elements from several of his stories.

This fan took it all further, though, by adding a quote from It: "My heart burns there, too."

They’re Real

On a similar note, this person, also on Reddit, got some ink displaying a stack of books, all written by Stephen King, and a red balloon, along with this quote: “Monsters are real.”

Taken from The Shining, this is an iconic line, as King’s books bring horror to life in more ways than one. Plus, with this design, images from different movies and titles of different novels could be incorporated in order to make it truly special and unique.

S.S. Georgie

One of Stephen King’s most celebrated works is It, which recently got two major motion pictures. Restingpigeon must be a fan of this tale since this tattoo is of a paper boat floating in some red waves.

For those that don’t know, this is the S.S. Georgie, a little toy made by a character in It … a character whose life was taken by Pennywise, The Dancing Clown.

Prom Queen

Another piece of art, this one from Pinterest, references a prom queen.

While this high school royal may be associated with a pretty dress, perfect makeup and a picturesque crown, it is also associated with a bucket of blood (at least for those who know Stephen King stories like Carrie)! The sash, the crown, the blood - this is a good one.

Just A Girl’s Name

It is common for people to get names tattooed onto their bodies, such as their significant other’s or their kids’.

Upon first glance, this tattoo pic from Pinterest could just look like another way to honor a girlfriend or daughter, but in fact, it is a celebration of another classic King novel: ChristineIt is even written in that retro font, which makes it quite distinct.

All Work & No Play

A list could go on and on, showing off examples of artwork based on and inspired by just The Shining, like this one that was shared on Tumblr.

It has the iconic sentence written out over and over, which was, of course, typed over and over by a disturbed character: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

Location, Location, Location

Last but not least is an idea from Reddit that honors the locations used in Stephen King’s books. Many of his stories take place and/or mention the same towns, such as Castle Rock and Derry.

Therefore, a tat that lists these spots (maybe on a road sign, as pictured here) is a very cool idea, and the red balloon is like the cherry on top!
