I must say director J.J. Abrams & Co. have done a damn-solid job keeping the upcoming Star Trek reboot/prequel top secret.
Although I think we'll see actual footage (*gasp!*) at the San Diego Comic Con late next month - if not that, then at least official photos of the cast in costume and whatnot.
Speaking exclusively to Trek Movie, co-writer and executive producer Roberto Orci confirms that magic word for any potential franchise has already been uttered: sequel.
The Transformers co-writer reveals:
I can give you a spoiler about the Studio’s state of mind (not about the movie itself). The spoiler is that they already want to lock us down to write the sequel. Take that as you will.
When pressed for more details, he clarified the matter:
Unless the studio had a horrible experience with us, they would be trying to lock us down as standard operating procedure. They haven’t even seen the movie yet, so this news should not be taken as evidence that we are anything special. It’s a quite normal practice.
My guess is Paramount might get Orci, his writing partner Alex Kurtzman and Abrams to write up a sequel outline/treatment before Star Trek opens next summer - but nothing beyond that.
