The Walking Dead spinoff Tales of the Walking Dead adds Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Anthony Edwards and more to the cast. AMC’s post-apocalyptic zombie drama is wrapping up its run with season 11 but there will be more Walking Dead coming as the universe continues to expand via spinoffs.

Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond have of course already done their share to build out the TWD brand. This summer, another player will be added to the roster with Tales of the Walking Dead, an anthology-style show that promises to focus on both new and established characters. Exactly what characters are set to appear on the show is being kept under wraps but there has been plenty of speculation about the possibility of fan favorites who’ve died on TWD being brought back to take one last bow.

AMC may not yet be ready to reveal what beloved characters are ready to walk again on Tales of the Walking Dead. They have however announced casting for some new characters, with Crews, Posey and Edwards headlining the list of stars joining the show. That trio will be accompanied by Jillian Bell and Poppy Liu as reported by THR. Details about what characters these actors will be playing have not yet been announced. TWD universe producer Scott Gimple did however promise "More announcements, more wonderful folks to come" in a press statement.

Parker Posey to star in Lost in Space on Netflix

All five newly-announced Tales of the Walking Dead stars are indeed experienced small screen performers. Crews is best-known for starring on the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, while Posey has been featured recently on Netflix’s Lost in Space. Edwards of course was a long-time resident of medical drama ER, while Bell appeared for a long run on Workaholics. Liu has several shows under her belt as well, including Hacks and Better Call Saul.

Obviously given the anthology-style nature of Tales of the Walking Dead these newly-revealed cast members will all be around for limited stints. But even if they don’t stick around the TWD universe as long as actors like Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, they’ll still have a chance to make their mark as they become involved in all-new standalone adventures set during the zombie apocalypse. What remains to be seen of course is whether any of these new characters will end up interacting with familiar figures from TWD lore. While the idea of telling new, self-contained stories within the TWD universe is surely enticing, the truly exciting prospect for long-time TWD fans is that Tales of the Walking Dead might allow them to spend a little more time with beloved characters who exited the show years ago, while perhaps learning more about the backstories of some familiar characters who were under-served the first time around.
