The announcement that after over a decade on the air, The Walking Dead was going to conclude with its 11th season, was a hard pill to swallow for many fans. However, creators of the series Scott Gimple and Angela Kang refuse to admit that this is the death of the beloved drama series, and rather, they are calling these changes an "evolution".

The Walking Dead will possibly be succeeded with two spinoff series; a Carol and Daryl-centric show set to premiere in 2023, as well as an anthology series helmed by Scott Gimple, titled Tales Of The Walking Dead. It is said that the aforementioned spinoff will further expand the Walking Dead universe, and even bring some beloved characters "back from the dead". With that news, there are several characters and backstories fans are hoping to see in Tales Of The Walking Dead.

Dale, Andrea, & Amy

Dale Horvath was a beloved character and is still remembered fondly by fans despite the fact that he was only on the show for two seasons. Endearingly portrayed by Jeffrey DeMunn, Dale was a compelling character with a tragic history. He lost his wife to cancer before the apocalypse, and meeting sisters Andrea and Amy after the outbreak gave his life meaning again.

It would be undeniably fun to see the first meeting these three characters and their experiences in the early days of the apocalypse before the show takes place.

The Dixon Brothers

As soon as TWD began, the Dixon brothers quickly made their way to elite fan-favorite status upon being introduced early on in the series' first season. From the beginning, there was something that drew fans to the dysfunctional Dixon brothers.

Although the 2013 video game, Survival Instinct, largely focused on the Dixon brothers, it would be interesting to see the show create their own canon for the pair's pre and post-apocalyptic life before they came to the Atlanta quarry.

The Governor

David Morrisey as The Governor on The Walking Dead

Actor David Morrissey has already stated his willingness to return to the TWD universe, so it wouldn't be too far fetched to assume that there might be a Governor backstory episode on the horizon of Tales Of The Walking Dead.

An episode detailing Philip Blake's life before he founded Woodbury, kept a zombie daughter and became the Governor would undoubtedly be interesting to see.

The Greene Family

Though many fans criticize The Walking Dead's second season for being "boring", it undoubtedly built on the characters and created some unforgettable story moments and relationships. The Greene family and their farm was introduced during the search for Sophia and is often cited as being one of the most memorable locations on the show.

Despite the fact that Scott Wilson is deceased, it would be interesting to see some sort of insight into the Green family history prior to meeting Rick and the group.

T-Dog

T-Dog left a beloved legacy on the series, despite only starring on it until early on in season 3. He may have only been with us for a short time, but fans won't forget him any time soon.

T-Dog was a minor but lovable character, and since so little is known about his backstory, delving into it in a Tales From The Walking Dead episode would likely please the audience.

Jesus

Tom Payne as Jesus in The Walking Dead TV Show

Many would argue that Jesus's storyline was cut short when he met an untimely end thanks to the Whisperers in the midseason finale of season 9. In the graphic novel series, Jesus lives much longer and has a significant relationship with Aaron.

None of this was provided on the TV series, and with Jesus's arc over so quickly, fans would be excited to see some backstory for this somewhat underrated character.

Beta

The Walking Dead Season 10 Finale Beta A Certain Doom

Beta is arguably the most mysterious character who has ever appeared on The Walking Dead. Some information was revealed about him in the comics, but TV viewers know even less of this enigma of a villain.

Beta's past career as a country singer was touched on late in season 10 after Alpha's death sent him into a downward spiral. This character is still shrouded in intriguing ambiguity, though, which naturally makes viewers want to know more about him.

Ezekiel

Ezekiel in The Walking Dead

Ezekiel is one of the most enigmatic and unique characters in the series and what fans know of his backstory is quite charming. Since his fate remains more uncertain than other characters on the show due to his battle with thyroid cancer, fans are eager to know more about him.

Ezekiel's larger than life "king persona" captivated the audience's hearts from the beginning, and his character has gone through some significant development since then. Who would say no to seeing Ezekiel save baby Shiva from a zoo when the apocalypse first began?

Aaron & Eric

The Walking Dead has a habit of bringing beloved romances to tragic ends all too soon, as far as many fans are concerned. There are also extremes when it comes to relationships on this show; either the romance is pushed to the point of wearing out its welcome with audiences, or viewers never get to truly care about a bond before one of the characters is inevitably killed off.

The latter situation applied to Aaron and Eric. In season 8 episode 3, Eric was fatally shot by a Savior and later reanimated. Fans loved the relationship between Aaron and Eric, and would still likely be open to some backstory on the characters.

Glenn

Glenn is arguably the most beloved character on The Walking Dead, to this day. He was the first survivor of the Atlanta Camp to meet Rick and captivated fans' hearts from the very beginning, as did his comic counterpart.

It's a common stance in The Walking Dead fandom that Glenn deserved better treatment than he got, and his character left the show with a lot of wasted potential. Due to the mistreatment, it's debatable whether actor Steven Yeun would even want to appear on the show again, but it's something fans will always want to see.
