Tales of the Walking Dead first look images reveal the return of Samantha Morton as Alpha. The Walking Dead is set to go off the air after the upcoming third part of season 11. But the Walking Dead universe will indeed live on through numerous promised spinoffs.
Arguably the most intriguing of all these upcoming spinoffs, Tales of the Walking Dead will be the next one to arrive (beating out Maggie and Negan's Isle of the Dead and Daryl's untitled European solo adventure). The anthology-style show is set to explore various different stories within the Walking Dead universe, opening up the chance for existing characters’ origins to the more thoroughly explored. Indeed one character well-known to Walking Dead fans, Whisperers leader Alpha, has been confirmed for the show with Morton coming back to play the character.
Morton’s return in Tales of the Walking Dead is indeed an encouraging development for fans who didn’t get enough of her on the flagship show. Now they can enjoy their first look at the character who would later come to be known as Alpha in a first look image from the new TWD spinoff. Other images feature previously-announced stars Olivia Munn, Terry Crews, Anthony Edwards and more. See the pictures in the space below:
Morton’s Dee (her name before becoming Alpha) is seen in this shot looking relatively peaceful, hinting that Tales of the Walking Dead will indeed go well back in time to explore the character’s life before the arrival of the zombies (after TWD already filled in some of her backstory). Most of the characters seen above are of course not so familiar to Walking Dead fans, though many of the actors are certainly well-known. One interesting shot shows Crews’ character Joe donning a helmet while sitting astride a motorcycle with Munn’s Evie nestled in the sidecar checking out a map (looking more than a little like TWD character Princess). There’s also a glimpse of Edwards, sporting a very grizzled post-apocalyptic look, wearing what looks like some kind of communication device on his back. Another shot features Parker Posey as Blair alongside Jillian Bell as Gina. Next comes Daniella Pineda’s Idalia and Danny Ramirez’s Eric sharing a moment after an apparent scrape. Flying solo in these images are Jessie T. Usher as Davon and Poppy Liu as Amy.
Not much is known about the specific stories that will be told with these characters in Tales of the Walking Dead. However, AMC’s synopsis teases that “Each episode has its own distinct tone and point of view -- but the stakes are high in each story, pushing new, indelible characters with relentless, life-threatening choices and situations.” It remains to be seen of course if these new characters do become as indelible as Daryl, Rick, Carol, Maggie and the gang from The Walking Dead. This new release of Tales of the Walking Dead first look images may not give many hints about who these new people are, but they do at least provide some clues about the settings for the show, while teasing how the various stars will look when they face the zombie apocalypse on Tales of the Walking Dead.
