Cult classic horror anthology Tales from the Hood is getting another sequel, and here's everything we know about Tales from the Hood 3. When it comes to the category of best horror movies centered on black people or black culture, Tales from the Hood is up near the top of the list, alongside films like Candyman, Get Out, Blacula, and The People Under the Stairs. It's the rare anthology movie that has no real weak spots, with its four stories and wraparound segment all being entertaining.
Despite quickly becoming popular, Tales from the Hood languished for many years due to legal rights issues resulting from its original producer going under, and then later lack of studio interest. That was until Get Out reignited the black horror sub-genre, leading to Tales from the Hood 2 finally materializing in 2018. Unfortunately, the sequel drew mixed reviews from fans, with many dismayed by the film's very obvious lack of budget. Still, many praised Keith David's performance as Mr. Simms, a role originated by the now largely retired Clarence Williams III.

First confirmed as happening in the summer of 2019, Tales from the Hood 3 is reportedly on track for a 2020 release, heading straight to video like part 2. However, no specific release date has been announced, and release plans were reported prior to the Coronavirus pandemic, so it's not entirely clear if a 2020 release is still in the cards. If released in 2020, Tales from the Hood 3 would celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original movie.

Notably, Keith David doesn't appear to be returning as Mr. Simms. Interestingly though, listed among the reported cast of Tales from the Hood 3 is horror genre icon Tony "Candyman" Todd. While his role isn't confirmed, he could well be the new Mr. Simms, making changing actors for that character a tradition for the franchise.

There are currently no confirmed plot details for Tales from the Hood 3, but based on the first two movies, it'll surely involve Mr. Simms regaling people with terrifying tales centered on the black community, and end up with someone getting trapped in Hell. Viewers are also likely to see someone really racist get their just comeuppance somewhere along the way.
