Synopsis

Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.

This film is a continuation of the rebooted X-Men film series that began with 2011's X-Men: First Class. It's a direct sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse, which first introduced new versions of characters like Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm. Similar to the other installments, Dark Phoenix is a period piece that takes place in the 1990s - continuing the trend of each X-Men film taking place in a different decade. Director Simon Kinberg is making his debut with the movie. Production started in June 2017 and wrapped October of that year.

Dark Phoenix was originally scheduled for release in November 2018, but was pushed back as Fox reorganized their lineup.
