Synopsis

Set in contemporary Chicago, amidst a time of turmoil, four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities, take fate into their own hands, and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.

This is the latest film from director Steve McQueen, an Oscar-winner from 12 Years a Slave. It is based on the 1983 TV series of the same name. Widows was first announced in 2015, with McQueen and writer Gillian Flynn signing on as its creative team. The cast started to come together in 2016, when Viola Davis joined the project. The supporting cast rounded into shape during 2017, prior to production starting. Filming started in May 2017.

Widows held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, a couple of months before its theatrical debut.
