Summary

A comedic look at the relationship between a wealthy man with quadriplegia and an unemployed man with a criminal record who's hired to help him. This is an American remake of the French film The Intouchables, which was released in 2011. The film had been in development since the original foreign film premiered, with the Weinstein Company acquiring the rights. It slowly progressed over the next few years, losing helmsman Paul Feig. Once a cast and crew was set, filming began in January 2017. The Upside had its world premiere at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and was originally set for a 2018 theatrical release. However, the project was shelved following the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal and was later picked up by STX Entertainment and Lantern Entertainment. It finally hit the big screen in 2019.
