Synopsis
The Gifted is an upcoming Fox television series based on Marvel’s X-Men. The story is centered on a family whose children have mutant abilities and are forced to run from the government. They team up with a group of mutants also in hiding, and work together to prove that mutants should not be feared and that they too could live harmoniously with the rest of humanity.
The Gifted is a result of a pilot commitment Fox made when a previous X-Men comic property fell through. Series creator Matt Nix who also serves as the showrunner is an X-Men fan whose concept was easily approved by Fox CEO Gary Newman, Entertainment President David Madden and the rest of the executives.
Director Bryan Singer who has directed four X-Men films helmed that pilot episode of the show that introduces the central family, The Struckers alongside new mutants and some mutants that readers and viewers have already been familiar with.
Reed (Stephen Moyer) and Caitlin (Amy Acker) are a very ordinary estranged couple who are unaware of their childrens' mutant abilities until a situation at a school dance leads Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Pecry Hynes White) to display their mutant abilities in public.
As a lawyer who has handled cases involving mutants, Reed seeks the help of a group of mutants in hiding to protect them. Other mutants to be featured are Eclipse/Marcos Diaz (Sean Teale) who can manipulate photons, Blink/Clarice Fong (Jamie Chung) who has teleportation powers, Polaris/Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont) who has magnetic capabilities and Thunderbird/John Proudstar (Blair Redford) who can see the future and has super strength and is the leader of the underground mutants. They are being pursued by Agent Jace Turner (Cody Bell) who is a Sentinel Services officer.
In the comics, Polaris is the daughter of Magneto while Thunderbird is the brother of Warpath. Blink has already appeared in the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past as portrayed by actress Fan Bingbing. Eclipse is a new character.
The pilot episode of The Gifted is scheduled to premiere on October 2, 2017.
