Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist team up to fight crime in New York City.
Marvel’s The Defenders brings together Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) in one Netflix series. All characters have individually starred in standalone series, but here they finally team up.
Among the four characters, only Jessica and Luke have previously met although the stories of all characters are intertwined. Jessica Jones met and had a brief relationship with Luke on the first season of her titular show. Luke headed back to Harlem towards the end of the season. In Daredevil, Claire (Rosario Dawson) was introduced as a nurse who helped Daredevil out; she eventually stood up to the Hand and ran to Harlem for her and her family’s protection. Luke Cage met Claire on his titular show where they worked together to investigate on the former's past life. Claire meets with Danny Rand on the first season of Iron Fist where the Hand is featured as the main enemy.
The Defenders picks up the stories of the individual characters from their previously aired seasons. Danny and Colleen (Jessica Henwick) go to New York City in search for the Hand where Matt, who has given up his vigilante life after the death of his lover Elektra (Elodie Yung) works as a lawyer. Jessica starts her search for a missing husband and Luke is investigating a case about the mysterious death of kids also in New York.
Actress Sigourney Weaver plays the main villain named Alexandra Reid, leader of the Hand. The group resurrects Elektra to fulfill her mission as the ancient weapon Black Sky. Jessica, Danny, Luke and the initially hesitant Matt work together to save the city and its people.
The Defenders is composed of eight episodes which were all released on August 18, 2017 on Netflix. Daredevil has been confirmed to have a third season while Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist are also set to have their second seasons.
