Synopsis

In the conclusion to the Maze Runner trilogy, Thomas leads his group of escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions the Gladers have been asking since they first arrived in the maze.

This is the latest film based on the series of young-adult novels written by James Dashner. The first movie came out in 2014 and was moderately successful, grossing $102.4 million domestically. A sequel, The Scorch Trials, was released a year later and unfortunately fared worse - bringing in $81.6 million during its run. The adaptations represented Fox's attempt to cash in on the young-adult craze that swept the entertainment industry for a brief period, building off the blockbusters like Harry Potter and The Hunger Games.

The Death Cure was originally scheduled for release in February 2017, but star Dylan O'Brien suffered injuries during principal photography, which forced the project to be delayed. Filming shut down in April 2016 to give the star more time to recover and cameras started rolling once again in March 2017.
