The Suicide Squad, DC's group of antiheroes that saved the world in 2016, is due back in theaters again with Suicide Squad 2 in 2019. Plot for the movie has not yet been revealed, but writing for the story is reportedly underway. Adam Cozad heads the writing team along with writers John Ostrander and Zak Penn. While the first movie was written and also directed by David Ayer, no official announcement has been made on who is taking the directorial rein for the sequel.
There have also been reports claiming actor-director Mel Gibson is being considered for the job. English filmmaker Guy Ritchie has also been reported to take interest in directing the movie. which is set to start filming in 2018.
Aside from actor Joel Kinnaman who plays the role of Rick Flag, other cast rumored to be back are actor Will Smith who plays Deadshot, actor Jared Leto who plays Joker, actor Jai Courtney as Boomerang, actress Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, actress Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, and actress Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
The first Suicide Squad introduced each character's background, and how they were chosen by Waller to save the world from an ancient supernatural threat. They agreed to go on the dangerous mission in exchange for lowered sentences. True to the name of the movie, not all of them survived the mission.
More details about the upcoming movie are expected to come out soon, but for now fans can only speculate.
