Adult animated sitcom South Park features the adventure of four fourth graders, Stan Marsh, Kyle Brofloski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick, in their hometown of South Park, Colorado. The series, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, has been airing on Comedy Central since August 1997. As of this writing the show has been announced to air episodes till 2019.

Stan is loosely based on co-creator Parker who serves as the voice behind the character as well. He is generally friendly and smart with a relaxed personality. Kyle on the other hand is loosely based on co-creator Stone who served as the character’s voice as well. 

Cartman is voiced by Trey Parker and he is described as aggressive, arrogant and even narcissistic. He is also highly intelligent and has become the most popular character in the show. Kenny's muffled voice is provided by Stone. He dies a lot.

The show is a follow-up to Spirit of Christmas, a pair of animated short films created by Parker and Stone. Both directed most of the episodes of South Park too.

South Park is recognized by a number of award giving bodies where they are often nominated in various categories. They have been nominated by Primetime Emmy Awards American Comedy Awards, Annie Awards, Austin Film Festival, Behind the Voice Actors Awards, CableACE Awards, Critics Choice Television Awards, Critics Choice Television Awards, Environmental Media Awards USA, GLAAD Media Awards, Gold Derby Awards, IGN Summer Movie Awards, Image Awards, Online Film & Television Association, Peabody Awards, People’s Choice Awards USA, PGA Awards, Satellite Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Television Critics Association Awards and TV Land Awards.
