The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, or simply Skyrim, is the fifth installment in the open world action role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls series. The single-player game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks is compatible with various gaming platforms such as Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, and Xbox 360.
The story takes place 200 years after the events in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It takes place in a province found in the continent of Tamriel called Skyrim. The murder of Skyrim’s High King led to a conflict for the rightful heir to the throne.
A civil war between the Stormcloaks and the Imperial Legion ensues. Unknown to its people, the conflict happening among them caused the awakening of an ancient evil, a dragon named after Alduin, the Nordic god of destruction. He is the first dragon created by Akatosh and is prophesied to consume the world.
The game starts with the player about to be executed when Alduin the World-Eater attacks. The player escapes, and slays another dragon. He absorbs the soul of the slain dragon in the process and becomes a Dragonborn. As such, he is trained by an order of monks called the Greybeards so he could learn to use his acquired abilities and skills. Along with other dragon-hunters called the Blades the player sets out on a journey to discover the origins of Alduin and to learn how to defeat it. The player seeks the help of three heroes who defeated Alduin in the past.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has also been released on Nintendo Switch along with its three expansions namely Dragonborn, Dawnguard and Hearthfire. A remastered Special Edition of the game is also available that allows owners of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles to enjoy the RPG (role-playing game). A PlayStation VR compatible version is in development.
