Resident Evil 7: Biohazard returns the franchise to its roots - a survival horror-focused game where every bullet and every tool at a player's disposal matters. After some sleuthing, Ethan Winters receives a mysterious video from his missing wife and uncovers that her last known location was Dulvey, Louisiana. Ethan arrives at the estate to find her, but who and what he finds is more than he bargained for. Now face-to-face with a mutated family and a mysterious new bio organism known as the "Molded," Ethan will have to fight to escape the derelict Bayou estate - and stay alive. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard takes place in the main series timeline and is considered a soft reboot. The game switches to a first-person perspective and has more of a survival/puzzle-solving focus than an action-heavy one. Ethan isn't as capable as the other franchise protagonists, so he'll need to use whatever he can find to fight back against his foes. Resident Evil 7 was also the first in the franchise to get a direct sequel in the main canon years later, Resident Evil Village. RE7 also had three expansion packs, one of which, End of Zoe, acted as an epilogue to the events of the main game.
