Peter Rabbit, the mischievous and adventurous hero who has captivated generations of readers, now takes on the starring role of his own irreverent, contemporary comedy with attitude. In the film, Peter’s feud with Mr. McGregor escalates to greater heights than ever before as they rival for the affections of the warm-hearted animal lover who lives next door.
This film is based on the children’s stories written by Beatrix Potter. The character of Peter Rabbit debuted way back in 1902 in The Tale of Peter Rabbit. That book spawned five followups that were published between 1904 and 1912. Peter is the world’s oldest licensed character, with the first toy being produced in 1903. In the many years since, there has been a multitude of Peter Rabbit merchandise, including dishes. The 2018 film is not the first time the property has been adapted – most notably there was a BBC series called The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends.
The new movie will be a combination of live-action and CGI animation, recruiting an all-star cast that includes James Corden, Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley, and more. Director Will Gluck signed on to helm the project in August 2016 and production began in January 2017. After the release of the first trailer, several outlets criticized the film for not staying true to the source material, feeling it was too low-brow and modern.
