Synopsis

Mavis surprises Dracula with a family voyage on a luxury Monster Cruise Ship so he can take a vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. The rest of Drac’s Pack cannot resist going along and once they leave port, romance zings Drac when he meets the mysterious ship captain Ericka. Now it’s Mavis’ turn to play the overprotective parent, keeping her dad and Ericka apart. Little do they know that his “too good to be true” love interest is actually a descendant of Van Helsing, arch nemesis to Dracula and all monsters!

Development on a third installment in this series began as far back as 2015, prior to the second film's release. Sony officially announced it in September 2015. Originally, director Genndy Tartakovsky wasn't going to come back for this movie, but changed his mind after other projects fell through. He was inspired by a terrible family vacation, as well as the Vacation movies. This film received its official title in November 2017. The earlier entries were mildly successful at the box office, earning $148.3 million and $169.7 million domestically.
