Synopsis
In Gremlins, Randall Peltzer is an inventor that seeks a Christmas present for his son, Billy, and wanders into Chinatown. After Randall encounters a small furry creature known as a mogwai in the shop, the mysterious shopkeeper, Mr. Wing, refuses to sell him. However, his grandson sells Randall the animal and tells him three rules he must follow to care for the creature properly. Unfortunately, things go wrong when all of these rules are broken accidentally, and chaos breaks loose over the town of Kingston falls, which is soon overrun by far less adorable-looking Gremlins. Billy must work with his mogwai and his family to stop the menacing monsters from destroying the town.
Gremlins is a horror comedy that pulls influences from Roald Dahl's book, The Gremlins, released in 1943. Gremlins were created as a joke amongst World War II pilots that blamed mechanical failures on fictional creatures. Gremlins would receive a 2nd film that steered away from horror and more into satire called Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
