Summary
Easter Sunday is a comedy loosely based on the life experiences of Jo Koy, a stand-up comedian of Filipino-American Descent. Jo stars as Joe Valencia, a struggling comedian/actor who attends a family gathering with his dysfunctional family on Easter Sunday. Joe battles with his judgemental elders and their disappointment in his career choices (as well as other family members and their own vocational decisions) while the younger generation positions themselves as the collected ones. Easter Sunday is about the chaos that comes with families; no matter how raucous and unhinged they can be, people always come back home. Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (Dukes of Hazzard), Easter Sunday strives to create a film that, while focusing on a Filipino-American experience, appeals to families everywhere as many of the themes and character archetypes carry over across all groups. The film is primarily English but also features Tagalog with subtitles for certain scenes. Easter Sunday was released in theaters on August 5 2022.
