  • Synopsis

Set thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, the series focuses on Johnny Lawrence reopening the Cobra Kai dojo, which causes his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso to be reignited.

This is a continuation of the popular Karate Kid franchise, with Ralph Maccio and William Zabka reprising their roles from the movie several years later. The project was first announced in August 2017 after YouTube gave Cobra Kai a series order. The cast was rounded out in October 2017 before filming began. The show will air on the YouTube Red streaming service, with the first season consisting of 10 episodes.

The Karate Kid debuted in 1984 and was one of the biggest hits of the year. The original film received positive review, with Pat Morita earning an Academy Award nomination for his performance as Mr. Miyagi. The success of the first Karate Kid led to the production of sequels, which saw diminishing returns over time.
