Summary
Chevalier is a biographical drama about Joseph Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), a composer/violinist, and his rise to a new life from humble origins. After outperforming Mozart during his concert, the film begins to bounce back and forth between the past and present, starting at the French academy, where he was able to refine his craft. Contending with racism and growing pains, Joseph endures and continues to grow - even meeting with King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette, who name him the Chevalier de Saint-Georges. When offered the opportunity to produce the Paris opera, Joseph faced persecution during the beginning of the French Revolution to maintain his position. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11 2022.
