In the followup to Man of Steel, Henry Cavill returns as Clark Kent/Kal-El after the events of the Kryptonian attack on Metropolis that marked the beginning of his journey as Superman. Ben Affleck's "tired, weary, and seasoned" Bruce Wayne suits up as Batman to hold Superman accountable, along the way forming the epic partnership that will one day be the foundation of the Justice League.
As the second installment of the growing DCEU, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is also the foundation of the Justice league, which will soon be featured in another movie. Actor Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman, also known as Clark Kent and Kal-El. Actor Ben Affleck takes on the Batman suit to play Batman and Bruce Wayne. Actress Gal Gadot also makes her first appearance as Wonder Woman and her alter ego Diana Prince.
Director Zach Snyder heads the production of the movie along with writers Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer. Also included in the cast are actresses Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Actors also include Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Scott McNairy as Wallace Keefe, Callan Mulvey as Anatoli Knyazev and Robin Atkin Downes as Doomsday.
It was originally announced in June 2013 that a sequel to Man of Steel will be made with a possible 2015 release. A month later, it was also announced that the sequel will feature two of DC’s most popular superheroes, Superman and Batman.
When plans for DCEU expansion progressed, the film was introduced not as a sequel but as a separate movie that will serve as the backdoor for other movies such as Wonder Woman and Justice League. The movie was released March 25, 2016 in the United States.
