A family lives an isolated existence in utter silence, for fear of an unknown threat that follows and attacks at any sound.
Director John Krasinski got a hold of the script in 2016, finding the concept appealing since he and wife Emily Blunt (who stars opposite him in the film) just had their second child. A key component of the plot is parents protecting their children from a mysterious threat. It was Blunt who encouraged Krasinski to direct the project, making this his third feature film - and first for a major studio. Paramount acquired the rights in 2017 and had Krasinksi work on a script rewrite before production. Principal photography ran from May to November 2017. Krasinski cited films like Don't Breathe and Get Out as part of his research during development.
A Quiet Place premiered at the SXSW 2018 festival, where it received rave reviews for Krasinski's prowess behind the camera and the story.
